How Would You Play This? 8ball CSI 2014 Finals

I don't have a problem with the way Daz played the 11-ball. I think I would have played the same shot, but I might have tried to play it a little tighter to the 2-ball, knowing that glancing off of the right side of it wouldn't be fatal. The speed certainly wouldn't have been as critical as it...

Do you use a strict diamond system?

I guess I must be using a strict one. Seems like it's always punishing me. :frown:  Aaron

    Springfield, MO

I'm not familiar with the other rooms in Springfield, but Billiards of Springfield on St. Louis St. will be hosting the MO State Amateur 9-ball Championship this weekend. The tourney runs Fri, Sat, and Sun, and there are usually some open tables each evening. There is, I believe, a $5 cover...

    Banking tip

John, any quick tips for aiming the two railer? Times when I am playing a lot of 1p, I can get fairly dialed in on them, but otherwise I have a tendency to alternate between hitting one a diamond short and the next one a diamond long, etc. Any help would be appreciated. I do usually use...

How Would You Shoot The 7?

Yep. I will pound them in all day on my GC with worn cloth and dirty balls, but I might overcut it by a diamond the first time I try it on new, shiny equip. Aaron

How Would You Shoot The 7?

:) Maybe, but I could see a player like Daz or Shane playing it that way. Rodney probably plays it that way every time! Aaron

How Would You Shoot The 7?

The only (viable) shot I haven't seen mentioned is the 2-rail "Z" draw, long/long. If you're halfway dialed in on the table, it's not hard to judge how much outside you need - usually just a smidge. Aaron

How Would You Shoot The 7?

If the cloth is new, I look for something other than the one-rail with inside spin. Even with max follow, it looks like the natural line takes you at the 9 or perhaps even a little left of the 9, and new cloth makes it hard to get enough twist off of the rail to straighten it up. I might...

    Tough Shot

I now understand what both of you are saying. I was thinking we were speaking more generally about the direction of the squirt - based on English's most recent post, he was attempting to be more general. I do see what you are saying, though, Neil, which is that while the direction of the...

    Tough Shot

I think one of us is missing something, Neil, as we are nearly always on the same page. I took English to mean that the direction (not the quantity) of the deflection will be opposite the english applied. This sounds on point to me, and would be cue agnostic. Am I missing something? Aaron

    Tough Shot

Nice point, English. If you want the cueball to stick to the rail, a level cue is very important. Since the nose of the cushion contacts the cueball above it's center, any upward bounce or squirt will cause cueball to ricochet off of the bottom of the cushion nose, forcing it away from the...

    How Would You Play This?

Jose is one of my all time favorite players, but if I had to point at one thing that has prevented him from winning as much as he could (should) have, it would be shot selection. I have seen him make so many baffling choices over the years, and while I don't consider this to be a terrible...

    Tough Shot

Don't feel bad, it's a super tough shot on any equip. What kind of cueball are you using? If it's a big cueball, or an unidentifiable brand, I'd recommend getting an upgrade and seeing if the shot changes for you. A red circle cueball will run you about $20, and is well worth it IMO. Good...

    Tough Shot

All depends on the equipment. Every shot mentioned so far is good on the right equip. On a valley with buckets, I'd be tempted to play a 1/2" swerve, just because I've seen so many tables with the rails out of alignment - if one side pocket point is sticking out a little, the shot is nearly...

    How Would You Play This?

On my gold crown, I believe this is natural to roll between the 8 and 9 for short side shape. It's not a bad shot to shoot, since anything long will run into the 9-ball and probably be ok anyway. That being said, if I'm on unfamiliar equip (or in competition), I look for another shot. If I...

anyone use front hand english exclusively?

Front hand is the only thing I use consciously. I know that my back hand is doing things that I'm not sensing, however, so to be fair I'd have to say I use a combination of FHE and BHE.
