    Band saw care and maintenance

I just picked up a 6 month old Laguna 1412 bandsaw locally via craigslist. I was eyeing the 14BX model but this one was too good to pass up. This is my first "big" bandsaw and I would like to get some experienced folks ideas about how to keep it in tip-top shape. Anything I should know that...

Is $500 for Jet JWBS-CS14 bandsaw a good deal?

Thanks folks! I saw another ad, this time for a Delta 14 inch model 28-203 - asking $550. Any thoughts on this one? https://sacramento.craigslist.org/tls/6029517743.html

Is $500 for Jet JWBS-CS14 bandsaw a good deal?

Thanks Dave. I've decided to go with a brand new Grizzly. Saving up until I can get one. The only question remains is which wheel is better, cast iron or aluminum wheels?

Is $500 for Jet JWBS-CS14 bandsaw a good deal?

Thanks guys. I will use the bandsaw mainly for cutting lumber into turning blocks for cuemaking. cutting point blanks and maybe a bandsaw that cuts cleanly and capable of making very thin cuts for veneer type work. I thought that Jet was a better quality than grizzly and that is why i ask the...

Is $500 for Jet JWBS-CS14 bandsaw a good deal?

I am saving up for a Grizzly ultimate or deluxe 14 inch bandsaw but there is a Jet bandsaw that is being sold locally. It's upgraded to include the jet miter and rip fence, upgraded power switch and also come with Jet roll around base - selling for $500. Is this a good deal? I've read fairly...

    pin glue / epoxy

From my own experience, it is easier to remove the pin when 5 minute epoxy was used. It takes less time and I think less heat to remove the pin which is better for the wood as well IMO. IIRC, it took a lot longer to torch a pin that I glued with West System and I needed to generate more heat...

    pin glue / epoxy

I use 5 minute epoxy. IMHO, 5 minute epoxy is plenty strong enough to last as long as the cue is taken care of... and it makes the pin easier to remove if needed.

    What wood is this?

Thanks! Manicure 3x week. Thanks everyone. I thought it was purpleheart but just wasn't sure. I've never seen purpleheart turn brown like this. Does all PH eventually turn purple? This one was from a 30 year old house cue, I am guessing.

    What wood is this?

if it"s purpleheart that has turned brown over time, will it still turn purple when exposed to UVl light?

    What wood is this?

Hello everyone. Can someone give me a good guess as to what type of wood this could be? I cut up an old house cue probably made in the early 80s. I cannot tell what type of wood it is... my best guess is that it is purpleheart that has turned brown over time. Thanks.

How do I wire this safety switch to my lathe?

Thank you for all the responses. I had no idea there was a difference between e stop and paddle switch. :D I tried connecting the wiring except for the ground wires and it works! Dave, you are right. It would be better doing it the same as you which I am already doing. I just need to figure out...

How do I wire this safety switch to my lathe?

Thank you. Answer to your first question is - yes, the wires are already connected. So, I just need to match the other wires. What about the green wire? how and where do i attach them? I also currently have my lathe attached to a foot pedal but i sometimes find it awkward having one of my foot...

How do I wire this safety switch to my lathe?

I bought this safety switch from grizzly thinking that it is already wired and all I have to do is plug in my lathe but it is not. There are no instruction manual that came with it. There are 3 wires, black, white ang green. One white and 1 black is already connected but the green wire is not...

    Routing question

You can get the 6 wing cutter router bit from Hightower. It really makes a huge difference. I've ruined shafts when using straight bit but the 6 wing cutter is more forgiving. On final shaft taper, I use 7 inch per minute feed rate with the cutter running at 15k rpm and it cuts smooth.

    Thin CA works best

Joey, stay away from the kitchen and stay by your lathe. It is safer. :D Hope you heal soon. Take care bay!
