    Get position on 5

I always end up hitting this shot too full on the object ball and the cue ball sits on the rail. Unless the next ball is on the short rail near the opposite pocket on the same end of the table... in that case my attempt to hit it full enough to kill the cue ball will instead cut it razor thin to...

    Get position on 5

Depending on how exactly the 1 is sitting, you might also be able to hit the short rail to the right of the 1 first loaded up with inside. There's practically no chance of a scratch and it's hard not to get a good shot on the 5. This same shot came up for me last night and that's how I played...

    * un·scru·pu·lous eBay Seller

If there's a need for magic products, somebody will fill it. In the link above I say it's less dishonest than a rebadged/de-badged cue. Ebay definitely doesn't care about accuracy in listings. I've reported many fraudulent listings, such as generic used balls being sold in an Aramith Super Pro...

    I Miss TAR

I like any high level pool match that I can view, but comparing TAR to any of the other offerings is a bit like comparing Walmart to Dollar General. Aside from viewer numbers, how much of the variety was affected by willingness to participate? I also miss TAR.

Earl Warming Up @ Sandcastle Billiards

With 1/4 of that stroke I'll rattle balls in the pocket 9/10 times. He is just phenomenal.

Where are you located? There might be one local to you; I imagine shipping isn't cheap because of the size of everything.

intentionally pocketing 2 balls on 1 shot - do u play these shots?

As stated by my SoCo bro above, it's a useful shot to know in 8 ball. I won the case game in an APA match during our teams' city championship run a few years back with a shot on the 8 ball that had to follow the opponents' ball in. It was the first time I'd considered the shot and I was mighty...

What's the Best Shot an Opponent has Made on You When it's HILL/HILL?

I realize it all sounded like one of 'those' stories, but it was a little more straightforward than it sounds from my post. Spotting the possibility and jumping the blocker were the hardest parts.

What's the Best Shot an Opponent has Made on You When it's HILL/HILL?

I don't recall anyone making any spectacular shots hill/hill on me, as they all usually get left 2-3 ball outs with the object ball rattled in a pocket somewhere. I'm pretty terrible, but I have a lot of fun! I, on the other hand, routinely have to escape safeties from an opponent or poor...

Diamond tables (Black phenolic vs. Dymondwood)

Is there any source for pictures of the new look? I'm having trouble imagining what this looks like.

How Would You Shoot The 7?

From the different views of the table it looks like bottom left would give an easy enough shot on the 7 (not a power shot that'll rattle) and send the cue ball to the long rail between the 9 and side. The 8 doesn't seem awful from over that way, and position to the 9 from there is easy enough to...

When is it OK to quit when you're ahead?

Try to play with reasonable people. The guy sounds like he understood your situation, and you didn't quit suddenly. I try to make it clear that I'm not staying to play indefinitely. I play until a given time, usually enough for several sets, and if we happen to be even at that point I will play...

    Cues like Players?

I had a months-long period of adjusting when I joined this forum and learned that my Meucci cue was apparently trash. Oddly enough, it was straight, looked good to me, and I played well with it. It's only fault was the name on it. There's a hefty price for vanity and ignorance, and I paid dearly...

    10-ball with 9-ball rules-why?

This is what you got out of my post? Wow... you're right. I want to see nothing but league players smashing the piss out of the cueball on every shot. Let's just televise one-pocket for the masses of pool purists who are carrying around enough disposable income to make it worth it to sponsors.

    10-ball with 9-ball rules-why?

The thing about 9 ball that gets changed around the most in the name of 'fixing' the game is the rack. 1 ball or 9 ball on the spot, break boxes, and legal break characterizations were all attempts to get the game to be less dependent on the break shot alone. I don't recall much noise being made...

    Summerville, SC

North Park hasn't had much going on the past few times I've been there. You might be thinking of Tucker's Billiards with the 9' tables. Tucker's isn't open on weekends that I know of anymore; there might be someone working on the tables they make and sell but not open for play. If you get up...

you don't have to be a member for the tournaments, and a membership is either free or like $2. The membership, if I recall correctly, has to do with zoning and alcohol license. Never an issue getting a drink during the tournaments.

The most common lies told in a pool room.

The ones where the person saying it doesn't know it's a lie are my favorite. For example: "Come on, stake me in this game! He's offering the last 5 and the breaks, rack my own! I can beat anyone playing like that!" Any variation of that is common. I've seen a lot of money lost in games people...
