    Organising A 9 Ball Tournament

A 16 man single elimination tournament with 8 tables available will never be waiting on an open table, and you've got roughly 6 hours to play 4 tiers of matches. Races to 9 should be safe; worst case you end up with one table (finals) going long and adjust from there. All planning goes out the...

Calling All Seasoned Players … Are You Ever Surprised?

I can't get past the misspelling of Efren's name on a pool forum! At my experience and skill level, I'm surprised on a regular basis by what good players can do.

Wow, SVB Has Made A Million

With 24 hours in a day, 7 days per week, and 52 weeks in a year... I'm coming up with 57 years and change to put in 500k hours. Shane's fry-cooker championship might not be feasible if he falls into the fryer practicing 'round the clock for 57 years.

Wow, SVB Has Made A Million

I can just imagine Shane at McDonald's dropping fries over and over and over, 8 hours a day, until he's arguably the best fry-cooker on the planet (some cite a few strong Asian fry cooks, but its a coin toss). Then some 3rd party hosts a taste test between McDonald's and some place with really...

Diamond Bar Box vs Valley bar box

The average age of each table, and the resulting wear, seems to be the biggest factor in quality of play. Cloth, cue ball, rails, etc can make a difference in play style, but all things being equal the valleys locally are just worn out and no fun.

Rodney announces Bonus Ball's return on FB

I think we'll know when Bonus Ball is back by the thread Cleary will start triumphantly announcing the arrival of his Bonus Ball shirt.

    Are you guys serious?

I recommend the Sunchips bags that were recalled for being too loud... Yes, that's a real thing. Some kind of environmentally friendly bag, IIRC.

    Are you guys serious?

I used to shark the hell out of myself by ordering pizza during a match. I figured out that I was hurrying my shooting in an attempt to get back and eat. My friend pointed it out one night and said I was playing "pizza pool"... and he was totally right!

    WPBL website?

I think you're right; I stumbled on a link for some of the tournament used balls (that look like the new Aramith Tournament set) and was surprised to see it was an old link (sorry, sold out:( for like 5 years) to the IPT merchandise website.

    Why So Serious...Seriously?

I get where you're coming from, but I disagree. If he was wearing the Cleary orange track suit, or an actual clown outfit, I might see it as him being disrespectful. From what it sounds like, he dressed up in (perhaps exaggerated) snooker tournament style clothing. While it was clearly done to...

Raking the balls - unsportsmanlike or not??

I generally concede verbally or with a thumbs-up, etc. On the rare occasion my opponent desires to concede a game to me, I don't care how its done as long as I'm not mid stroke or something. In practice or fun games, I always let the person I'm playing know that I want to finish the game if its...

    Paint remover.

For a cue rack, I wouldn't worry too much about the glue-friendly as its likely assembled with bolts or screws. If you can disassemble it, your end result will be better. I recently used Aircraft Remover to strip a Mosin Nagant gun stock... 75 years of grime, shellac, and cosmoline came off...

    Pool Table ID

You're going to need larger pictures, I think. Also, it may be more fruitful to ask in the "ask a mechanic" sub-forum here, as they are the ones who work on and see most of these tables. Good luck, and welcome to the forum!

Anybody switch from glasses to contacts for the game?

I played in glasses for a few years and had most of my skill improvements during that time. I constantly was pushing them as close to my eyes as possible so my field of view was correct. After my dog mangled those glasses, I took the plunge and got contacts (I'd wanted to for years) and I was...

I Bet There Are A few That Could be pro

When Johnny Archer was advertising/soliciting memberships for the ABP, I thought about buying the more expensive "Pro" membership... Just for my résumé and whatnot. I can't beat ANYONE... probably not even Geno's new protege before she took lessons... but for something like $125 IIRC, I...

Why change your game mid tournament?

Not to take away from the excellent explanations from the esteemed posters above, but I would simplify it as follows: When something isn't working, you adapt or fail.

    meucci collectors

LePro is standard now, not sure about then. The tip is something that nobody in the world would fault you for on a cue that's been played with, when evaluating original condition... like headlight bulbs on a classic car, they get changed out. Put on your flavor of tip (if you want something to...

Way to get more time at the pool hall

It was 3 balls the last time I played at a fair, and the table, cloth, balls, pockets, cues... Well, Everything made it a challenge. I was successful, but I saw some pretty good players I knew dump a lot of money to that game! I don't care what anyone says, that's an accomplishment! Good job!
