What is it with bridges and pool players?

I watch a lot of pool on youtube and regularly see top professional players over stretching to play very important often vital shots and seem to avoid using the bridge at all costs often to their detriment. I also hear commentators say oh the player has to use the bridge now which could stop...

    Ronnie O'Sullivan 147

I know it is big in places like South Korea and also Europe so it could just be a cultural thing. Europeans particularly have much more refined tastes than say British, Australians or Americans overall IMHO. The taste for more refined things is unfortunately few and far between. I remember...

Whats the next match - Tony Chohan Vs Frost or Pagulayan?

So I have been watching the Tony Chohan vs Dennis Orcollo match from the beginning and must say I was blown away! Chohan has incredible shot making ability and to play under that kind of pressure is truly brilliant, another class, another world. Anyway, what other masterpiece is in the making...

Why do pool halls take a green fee?

In Australia most of the pool players are bums and will drink free water and bite their nails :-) so green fees are a must.

Chris Melling's 4 rail bank shot

I think he is the only player to have played professional snooker, English billiards, English 8ball and American pool all during one season. So I am guessing he has a little knowledge in shot making :-) Genius. I spent a day practising next to him once in Wales and he is a straight up guy...

    Dress Code and Pool Sponsorship

I have been flicking through the posts on the forum recently and reading about lack of sponsorship etc. At the same time I have been flicking through youtube watching players compete in big competitions such as the Derby City Classic or these large one pocket money games and see players in...

Currently, who are the top 5 cueists in the world?

You make some good points, particularly the cultural aspects of taking up either sport which I agree with. In terms of Ronnie, he never quit snooker to fully pursue pool so he wasn't prepared to compete effectively on the IPT. Whereas if he had quit snooker and learnt the game properly like...

Currently, who are the top 5 cueists in the world?

It is all subjective as the top snooker players have no incentive to quit snooker and play full time 9ball or 10ball which is the only way we would know if they could play shots that don't arise on snooker tables. Moreover it is the only way they could learn how to play the games properly in...

Currently, who are the top 5 cueists in the world?

To be good at some of those games such as 14-1 or 9ball doesn't necessarily require the very highest level of cueing. Instead they require a certain standard of cueing and a lot of knowledge. The pockets, cloths and table conditions on pool tables for example allow for a much wider degree of...

Any angles around travelling with ivory?

International travel is my issue as bags get screened and checked manually etc so the risk is increasing particularly with more woods and animal products being added to the list of banned items.

Any angles around travelling with ivory?

I agree he could make one identical if not better, my thing is at this stage I don't have the option to fork out for another big cue. I think I might have to leave it at home :-(
