Soft hitting custom cue maker cues?

I'd never say that the pin has zero influence over how a cue hits. But I will say with 100% confidence that it's a very small piece of a very big puzzle. Based on my experiences, the tip plays the largest part in how a cue "hits." Right after that, it's a mishmash of ferrule...

Check on a BK Rush second hand cue I'm purchasing

Fair enough. I appreciate the response. I've heard about these things for quite a while now and have never gotten the lowdown.

The foot rests of spectator chairs have dinged my butt sleeves more times than I'd like to admit.

Soft hitting custom cue maker cues?

I ordered mine with a standard radial pin and, as far as I know, they'll put pretty much whatever pin you want in it. But it wasn't the pin. It was the tip and ferrule. The old ones came with Sumo tips that were hard as rocks and LBM ferrules. As soon as I changed those out that noise went...

    Butt Protection

If I had a place to do it I would absolutely get an el-cheapo cue and spray it with bedliner. That's actually not a bad idea at all for a bar cue.

Are they coming from your case? Any debris in your case, particularly if it's a tube or JB Ultra style, will absolutely scratch up the finish of your cue.

    Butt Protection

It's not necessarily counterproductive. People put wraps over clear coated vehicle finishes all the time. It's just that at it's least it would be a bit of overkill. But at it's most, it might actually cause more harm than good.

    Butt Protection

When I lose, I prefer to grab my opponent's cue, run outside, and chuck it on the roof of the pool room. That way no laws have technically been broken. I simply relocated their cue to a higher, and arguably safer, location. You could have opened a cue store with what was on the roof of my old...

    Butt Protection

We both know that's not a good comparison because it's less of a tool and more of an instrument. What I can show you are $10k shotguns, pistols, guitars, etc. They're made to be used and their finishes aren't always there just for looks. They're there to protect the actual object under that...

The thing is, even then, eventually the finish will shrink and/or the wood will swell. So it's not going to keep that perfectly smooth glass-like finish forever.

    Pool Inventions of the Future

Believe it or not, the electric chalker has been done. I've got an old BCA rulebook somewhere and there's an ad for it in there.

    Help Identify This Cue!

Richard did reply to the Facebook post about this cue. He didn't confirm or deny that it's one of his. But he did answer the question asked in the post confirming that he made some 5/16-18 jointed cues very early in his career. Any chance we could get a pic of the entire butt section...

Soft hitting custom cue maker cues?

Yep. That's what I was thinking as well. And for anyone who didn't pick up on why I put them in the order they're in, it's because everything except monkeying with the taper can be changed back to what it was. I haven't found anyone (yet) who can successfully add wood back to a shaft taper...

Soft hitting custom cue maker cues?

They're the best I've used from an appearance hit perspective. Although, I did have an older Schon that was extremely similar to the current STL 07 model. It wasn't an R Series and had inlaid points. But it had a pretty sweet ferrule on it as well. I don't think it was micarta because it...

Soft hitting custom cue maker cues?

This is so spot on. Hitting a premium ball with a forged iron just feels better than hitting a budget ball with a cast iron. And until you do it for a while and have some time to think about it, it's kind of hard to put into words. It just feels better. To anyone who has never played golf, I...

Soft hitting custom cue maker cues?

For what it's worth, if someone asked me what I'd do to soften the hit of their cue these are the things I would do and in this order. It's a lot. But the idea is to get you where you want to go without going too far. And, yes. It's overkill. But you're basically tuning your cue. And if...

Soft hitting custom cue maker cues?

I can't help myself here because I love this topic. So, I always thought I preferred softer hitting cues. But after a lot of time at the table and way too much cash, what I figured out was that I like a relatively stiff shaft but quiet hit. I ordered a Samsara new from them around 25 years...

    Ebony and Maple, No Veneers

Brother, to me, the old Schon stitch ring R2's are basically the perfect cue. Bonus points if it has the light/natural stain on the maple. I don't know how to explain it other than they just look like players.

    Ebony and Maple, No Veneers

Y'all need to stop it. I've got a weakness for contrasting points without veneers and I'm starting to sweat.
