    Body Hurts when i play

I'm surprised that Dr.Faust would have such problems at age 17. I had no problems until well into my sixties. Now, at the end of a game, I have a pain that shoots from my bridge hand to my wallet.

    How to clean pool balls?

The problem with long-term storage of phenolic balls in the boxes may be outgassing. Plastics continue to release very small amounts of gasses for the life of the material. Keeping balls in the dark will prevent UV-related yellowing, and leaving the storage containers open to ventilation will...

    wrap vs. wrapless

I have always preferred wrapless, but last year I bought two cues with elephant ear wrap and I like it much better than wrapless. Nice, solid grip.

What if there was a pro organization, and they drug tested?

Holy crap! What if they drug test the spectators?

There are only two strokes in pool?

Yep, two strokes: the one I have, and the one I want.

    Orange Crusher--get it soon

Damn. You're right. I cleaned all the chalk off and looked at it through a loupe, and it is leather. I didn't pay a lot of attention when the cue came in. It just looked like a one-piece phenolic tip - and it hits as hard as one. I will say that I'm glad to find this out, as I didn't want...

When did you do your first run out?

My first run-out was in 8-ball, in 1958. Hope to do it again some day.

What size is your table in your house? Trying to decide between 8 and 9 foot.

I once had an 8-foot Olhausen (search for "Olhausen Death Rattle™"), but went to a 9-foot Gold Crown. The only reason I can now see for buying an 8-foot table is if the choice is 8-foot or nothing. A nice used Gold Crown should be easy to find, and you'll never regret it. -Howard

    This is what I miss

Slow cloth requires a slightly different style of play, both in stroking and planning. You're right that the spin doesn't stay on as long, and that knowledge must be part of your game. It doesn't limit your options, but it does sometimes provide a different set of options. It's still easy enough...

    This is what I miss

If there were any pool halls around here, that might be something to consider. I have a couple of friends with tables, but mostly we play on my table. So, no problem.

    This is what I miss

I know just what you're talking about, Fatboy. I have long been considering a slow cloth on my next recover. I think with the tight (4-3/8) pockets, it will be interesting. The game was very different with the slow cloth - a lot tougher getting position much of the time. Of course, that may just...

    Poolhalls in Kadena Japan

Wish I could help you out, junkie, but I haven't been in Kadena since 1967. Caught a cab up from Naha; got my shot card phonied up; filled a camera bag with little bottles of whiskey at the BOQ; and caught a MAC flight back to The World. Pool was the last thing on my mind. Good luck with your...
