How Would You Play This Layout?

Isn't the 7 blocking the path after the 2nd rail if you try to go this way? -Andrew

    How Would Play This Layout?

Looks to me like the 4 is blocking this. First shot I saw, and I think still my favorite option, is to cut the 1 softly into the rail about 1/4 ball with a little right english, so that the 1 banks toward the 4 and the CB comes off the end rail hopefully getting behind the 6. Nobody else would...

How Would You Play This Layout?

Yeah, Shane probably decided against keeping one of the world's best players in his chair by taking the easy runout, and instead opted to give him a chance at the table. For the psychological edge. -Andrew

How Would You Play This Layout?

It's an excellent format regardless of whether it's stolen. These threads beat the pants off the pool politics and equipment discussions that dominate the main forum at times. I'd much rather talk about a table layout than that stuff. -Andrew

How Would You Play This Layout?

I'm confused; didn't you execute it perfectly (albeit not quite reaching the 5th rail) on the first try? Based on where your CB ended up, and where the 3 and 9 are in the photo in this thread, it looked to me like you proved it was indeed on. -Andrew

Jacked up with low inside? How are you getting on the 3? -Andrew

How Would You Play This Layout?

If you hit the 5th rail, I think you're golden. If you misjudge your speed and come up short, you could be hooked. I agree about the 7, to my eyes it's not in play. If you're going to run into a ball going this route, I think it's going to be the 9. -Andrew

How Would You Play This Layout?

Stun takes you straight into the 7-ball. You'd have use a moderate amount of draw to play your shot, which is tricky. Between this and the 5-rail shot peppersauce and Icon of Sin described, I think I'd probably take the 5-railer. As an added bonus, if you accidentally clip the 9-ball on your...

    Mike DeChaine's Position Shot!

I think many of us can do it. In competition, with only one try at it, is a whole different issue though. Great shot. -Andrew

How Would You Run These Balls?

That depends whether you catch the 2 totally full, or cut it a little. If you catch it full in the face, you do need the 1 to come out a bit to hook him. If you hit the 2 slightly to the left of center as we look, the CB snuggles right up against the back of the 6. If you catch the 2 slightly...

How Would You Run These Balls?

You don't have to get the one all the way across the table, he was just saying you'd bank it across to indicate the direction the one will go. You hit this shot nice and soft to maximize the chance of the CB freezing nicely to the back of the six. If I was playing offense from here, and to be...

    Gambling Advice.

So you're saying the further he gets in the hole, the faster he digs. That's a gambling problem. Don't gamble with problem gamblers. -Andrew

I was up several games when the dust settled. I either had the best of it, or I wasn't getting his best game. A couple guys in there who know us both expressed surprise I was willing to play him even, which makes me think he has a higher gear than I was seeing last night. Or maybe I'm just...

Insane Game of One Pocket - Frost vs Schmidt

So many fouls... I can't wrap my head around how readily top players take foul after foul. At one point Scott was down -9 to 1. That means he's playing John Schmidt 17-7 from there. Scott's a great player, perhaps the greatest 1p player playing the game today, but there has never lived a...

    Corr vs Appleton Safety Battle

For those of us who aren't that familiar with 14.1 tactics, why the second ball? It's unclear to me what makes that better than the ball above it, or even the one above that. What shot, then, would Crane or Diliberto opt to attempt instead? Andrew

    One-pocket etiquette

I like this way of thinking. I'm going to try to keep it in mind next time an opponent is less than honorable in any way. Although it doesn't come up much; most of the players in my area are pretty good about doing the honorable thing, even though some of them still manage to come across as...

    One Pocket Sub-Forum Needed Here?

A couple others in this thread have said this, but I'll add my vote: Why a sub-forum? Why not just more threads about 1p right here in the main forum? -Andrew

Since I believe failing to spot a ball is more often an act of true forgetfulness than subterfuge, I don't know if I'd agree with your suggested rule. I do, however, think that invoking the phrase "you snooze, you lose" in response to someone asking that you abide by the rules of the game...
