MN Straight Pool League-Length of Games

For what it is worth....We just finished our Fall 2014 session (14 weeks) and tracked the length of our games (all were played to 125 points). Of the 105 game times reported, the avg time from start to finish was 124 minutes. This season we emphasized pace of play. In the past we have had games...

    Is 14.1 gaining popularity?

We have been involved in 14.1 leagues in the Minneapolis area for the past 11 years. The number of participants have varied with the season (summer at times is a hard sell). One thing I have noticed recently is you can usually find non-league 14.1 games being played most every day of the week...

14.1 High run record on a 5X10 tsble

I think the term world record high run is being thrown around way too loosely these days. The record on a 5x10 is in the 309 range by Irving Crane I believe. Although Stuart P run was 117, it r was great on the table it was on, but it was an exhibition run without an opponent. I believe firmly...

Shooting with extra equipment on the table

We have a "house rule" in our league that you can use the rack to check if balls would be in the rack area due to the fact we do not have rack outlines drawn on the tables. I certainly agree that leaving the rack on the table while shooting should be a foul. -Dennis

Hitting the table with your palm while the balls are moving

I would look at it as just poor etiquette. Attempting to call it a foul won't get too far. -Dennis

Shooting while the racker is working

I think proper good etiquette should be followed always. Wait until the 14 balls are racked and the racker has moved away from the table before shooting the 15th ball.

Interesting Cue ball foul rule and Forfeiting Question?

I have been involved in local 14.1 leagues for a number of years and feel it is best to have your league's rules identified (such as WPA World Standardized Rules). Urge league members to read and be familiar those rules before game number 1 of the season. This goes a long way to preventing...

    3 foul rule opponents obligation

One of the things that complicates matters is the rules are written from the point of a referee present to make judgements, when in fact almost all matches are not refereed. The last 14.1 tournament I can remember being properly refereed was 2000 US Open 14.1. I guess common sense has to...

    Straight Pool Deluxe iPad App

Comes up on rare occasion. I have had it happen to me twice in last 10 or so years. I could see that when an "unsportsmanlike conduct" foul occurs app would take you to a decision tree with points penalty and re-break or not. Serious fouls can be disposition with various degrees of penalties.

    Straight Pool Deluxe iPad App

Love the app. How would I enter a "serious foul" into score. Let's say my opponent got stuck in the stack and instead of using a legal shot, used the ferrule on his cue to move the cue ball. That is a serious foul and -15 points and he has to re-break.

    Rule Question #3

We don't have lines around the triangle area either where I play, but have mad it a house rule that triangle can be used.

    Straight Pool Deluxe iPad App

Used my Straight Pool Deluxe App in a 125 point game with a fellow league member, Hank, yesterday. I showed him the basics of how to run the scoring and we were off. Works well but differs from Billiards Buddy that you don't have to wait until rack is over to "post" your score..it is real time...

    Straight Pool Deluxe iPad App

Just downloaded the App and played a fictional game. I was warned when I was on 2 fouls which is good. I especially like the game and shot timers. There is a link to the WPA rules which is also good to have. Will use this for league contests this summer. Kudos, Great App.

    Rule question

I am sorry but I am not "dreaming this shit up". The situation has come up 3 times in the past few years. I am just looking to verify that this would be ball in hand and a 1 point foul or ball in hand and a 15 point foul. How is "intentional" determined". WPA rules 6.11 Bad Play from Behind...
