Something You Would Never Say Out Loud

I say all kinds of disparaging things about my game when I screw something up. (trying to work on limiting that, it doesn't help) The one silly thing I catch myself saying , both when I'm playing or even watching a teammates match, is when a ball is on its way to where it should go, but isn't...

New Cue Syndrome -- Real or Imagined

I haven't had a new cue in almost 15 years so I dunno that I can speak to this...perhaps that justifies me getting a new one, just to be sure? Research, after all... ;)

    Pool and drink

When I used to drink, I would find that one drink (or maybe two beers) would loosen me up somewhat. Most of the time, I wouldbe playing after a day at work, and often would still be wound up from the stress involved, so having one or two could help me stop being wound so tight. Problem is that...

    Combinations

When I first began learning how to play pool, the guy who was teaching me had a saying (he actually had many sayings, lol) "banks and combos are low percentage shots"... with the meaning to look for higher percentage shots, when possible. I still hear him in my head when shooting banks or...

Opinions regarding a former top pro playing in and dominating a Poolroom‘s weekly handicapped tournament?

Even tho my mechanics are pretty rough, as is my stroke, I'm quite certain that my lack of development is far more due to the mental aspects of the game. I am my own worst enemy. 🤷‍♂️

Attn fatboy... think they figured out they made a mistake? ;)

as someone else posted in this thread.... my work here is done ;) Sean posted on AZB! A Christmas Miracle, bwhahahahaha For folks that don't know (likely most of you) Sean used to frequent this place. Told him I was gonna post here about the orange replacement balls, lol. I got to know him...

Opinions regarding a former top pro playing in and dominating a Poolroom‘s weekly handicapped tournament?

I was fortunate one evening at our local room to have Mike Dechaine come in and spend much of the night there, on one of our league nights. He did challenge matches, and a bunch of proposition shots, and such. It really was fun to watch him do his thing.

Opinions regarding a former top pro playing in and dominating a Poolroom‘s weekly handicapped tournament?

Being someone closer to the 400 end of the spectrum than most of the rest of y'all (hell, I'm probably lower, I suck, lol) I agree with this. I don't have an issue playing someone much stronger than me, happens a lot. It's fun to see the really good player doing his thing, up close. Tho I've...

    8 BALL RULE QUESTION

We used to play variations on that at our Eagles Club, back in the day. It was usually used as a way to handicap a much stronger player, to keep things interesting. The stronger player would have to do the last pocket thing, the lesser player just had to pocket things the regular way. (Called...

    8 BALL RULE QUESTION

Fair enough. How about I rephrase it? "Based on the descriptions of typical bar table 8-ball, as seen here on AZB, I'm not entirely certain that I would enjoy the experience." Better? ;) Given my limited experience in such environs, asking "BCA?" would get a blank stare. Even saying...

    8 BALL RULE QUESTION

I don't play in bars unless I'm with friends and we are the one using the table. I wouldn't have the patience to deal with all the craziness. Even tho I play primarily APA, I could deal with any regular set of rules. Call shot, open after the break, any of the "regular" rules. The bar pool...

Southwest cues how much and how long through the years?

I kinda chuckle about this. When I joined AZB and started to learn more about all things related to pool, that was 15 years ago, or so. I learned about the wait for a SW cue, and thought about putting my name in to be on the waiting list. After more thought, I came to the realization that I...

Who says barbox 8-ball is harder than 9-foot?

The Eagles Club that I belong to has four 9' Olhausens. The "proper" pool room across town has ten 9' Diamonds. At a quick glance, the pocket sizes seems similar, tho most folks feel the Diamond are "tighter", and in all fairness they are pretty close. The depth of the shelf on the Olhausens...

Who says barbox 8-ball is harder than 9-foot?

I'm at the other end of the spectrum from all you good players, being just a poor to mediocre league hack. I've played 98-99% of my games on 9' tables, mostly fairly tight tables (Diamonds and Olhausens that have similarly small pockets). The few times I get to play on a 7' table, it throws me...

    Dont overthink it......

I overthink things on a good day, let alone when I'm in a slump. When I'm struggling, I try to cut things back, simplify. Concentrate on the shot at hand, and less on the leave. Force myself to watch the ball into the pocket. Try to quiet my mind (never an easy thing).

    Where's Cocobolo Cowboy?

There was one time, many years ago, after a bunch of posts mocking him or disparaging him, he did a post similar to this. Coherent, well thought out, etc. I seem to recall him saying something to the effect that he could write that way, he chose not to, for whatever reason. I can't recall...
