Pictures of World Caliber Players When They Were Young

I have been away from the net for some time and just found this thread. \i enjoyed reading this thread. Here's a picture from the Baltimore Bullet.

Hi PT, when I said that I had just found this thread, I obviously meant, since you posted a BD wish. You have a good memory, nice tidbit on the origins of snooker. I guess a belated Happy Birthday to the great game of Snooker is in order. You’re right, it was The Breaks Came My Way. Al was the...

    Joe Davis

Hi PT, I just found this thread. It’s always great to commemorate the great man. Just curious, was it at the CNE, that you had met Joe? I heard that he was signing his latest book at the time. The title escapes me at the moment, but I do believe that I have a signed copy. I will post a picture...

    Snooker vs. Pool

I could be wrong but the drills for Blues off the spot often include two drills. Making the blue while missing the baulk colors (in and out of baulk)so that the cue ball continues back up the table towards the black end. The main one is straight into the far (diagonally) corner from distance. In...

    Ronnie O'Sullivan

I am just about to leave the house so don’t have time to look it up. One that has been mentioned is Judd Trump at the World’s. I did post an attachment showing RO questioning the ref about price money, (for a 147) a couple of shots into the run. His intentions after that were obvious. Mike

Pressure is always self inflicted. I don’t think that perfection can be achieved without putting yourself under pressure. When playing the first game of a long series, I would guess a player is more concerned with getting a 147 (if the opportunity arises) than winning the game. As has already...

Here is my take on the lack of pressure (once you’ve won the game) when producing a 147. If a golfer has a chance to set a course record, is the pressure not still on? He could be well ahead of his competitors, but this is irrelevant. If in hockey (late in a game) a goalies team is well ahead...

I’m with you on that one. When watching snooker and commentators are not English, I turn the sound down. I am not prejudice in the least, it’s just that I find they seem to never stop talking. Mike

If a colour's spot is occupied, it is placed on the highest available spot. If no spots are available is goes as close to its own spot as possible, without touching the interfering ball. In the case you mention, pink and black spot were occupied. So the highest spot available was the Blue spot. Mike

To say that there isn’t pressure on achieving a 147 is completely wrong. Yes after a certain stage, the frame has been won, but you still have a perfect game at stake. I would think that anytime a perfect performance can be achieved, there is pressure. When a player has the opportunity of a 147...

    George Chenier

Thanks for the attachment. I believe that George made the high run of 144 while visiting England. It was not recognized by the snooker establishment at the time because it surpassed Joe Davis’s high run. They did finally recognise it shortly thereafter but only once Joe had exceeded it. Due to...

Show us your HOME ROOMS !!

Nice room you have there, Jumper. If raising the lights doesn`t reduce the hot spots, try different bulbs. I would leave the pot lights on. If you are ever coming north to where you can swim with the polar bears, drop me a line. Also, if you are looking for some memorabilia for your room, let me...

Switching to a snooker stance has really improved my ball pocketing

We are in agreement except for the movement of the cue ball. Playing position in snooker is just as important as 9 ball. Most runs in snooker are negated by landing on the wrong side of the ball. Also, I have heard it stated that when playing snooker you do not have to hit the cue ball as hard...

Switching to a snooker stance has really improved my ball pocketing

I have said this before, so I will say it again. Snooker players are considered to be the most accurate when it comes to making balls. Why not study what the majority of them do? When a snooker player starts to struggle, they get back to basics (walking into the shot, stance and cue delivery)...

    The REAL problem with pool

I think it will be hard for the game to improve without getting our youth involved. It is widely accepted that our youth are not socializing face to face enough. Perhaps this is the perfect time to introduce our great game to them. With tables in the schools and part of the curriculum (physics...
