OK - flame away: first table rehab

Just got through with my table rehab, except for recovering the rails and wanted to share my work, get feedback, and give props to everyone here that made this possible (especially RKC). I don't have pics of the leveling process, but I used RKC's method, and I got the overall level (machinist's...

Smoking and playing pool...or lack of!

The patch helps a lot with the mood swings and anxiety. True, you have to wean yourself off the patch eventually, but by then, you will no longer feel the urge to smoke a cigarette. For me, I got to the second stage of the patch, and suddenly noticed that I was forgetting to use them more than...

    Question about gluing cloth...

?????? Hey Glen... Assuming from the context here that you maybe meant to post in the thread about that terribly hacked GC3 that Da Bank got saddled with? While I'm at it, just want to say thank you for passing on your knowledge and for your participation here. I have some background in...

    Question about gluing cloth...

I will post results when I get done. Right now I am cleaning glue off the rails to attach new cushions. Will be doing a overall re-level (slate is flat, table just settled a little), Artemis cushion install and then the Simonis... Look for a new thread in the next few days with photos and a...

    Question about gluing cloth...

Thanks, Dartman. I'm going to mark it for stretching so applying the glue shouldn't be too difficult. I forgot about letting contact cement get dry to the touch before bonding. As many times as I've used contact cement for other applications, I should know that. It's amazing what you forget...

    Question about gluing cloth...

Getting ready to do a recover with 860HR, and have been doing my research. I was initially going to staple it, but it looks as if gluing the cloth will be the best way to get a more serious stretch on it. I will be using 3M Neutral 10. Is coating the edge of the slate alone enough to attach...

Does drinking hurt or help your game?

crawfish hit the nail on the head pretty much. There is a documented phenomenon called "state-dependent learning" and it has been demonstrated that skills that are mostly acquired while under the influence are actually recalled better while under the influence. This does NOT mean hammered! I...

How to keep your newly covered table like new

stevesdl, My canister vac has an adjustable slot (an air-bleed) right at the end of the flexible hose that lets me adjust the amount of vacuum. I try and set it so that I have good vacuum without it trying to lift the cloth away from the table...

How much room for a 9-foot table?

I just setup a table with 5' on all sides of the playing area, and it's perfect for a 58" cue. When you're all the way against a rail your stroke is only going to be 1"-2". I haven't had any problems banging against anything. By the way, you're right. They do have a tendency to undercut room...

    reusing rubber? Artemis Pool #66

Travis, How old are these cushions, and did they come off clean? I'm assuming as long as they came off the rails without damage that the glue residue should clean up with no problem. PM me if you're still looking for a buyer...

    accufast cushions

Not to take away from Rick on this, but I have found Accufast cushions on the net for $200, so they are relatively competitive in price with the Artemis. This is a short-term table (perhaps 5 years) so the Artemis is the best solution for me because it fixes the "Olhausen death rattle" without...

    accufast cushions

pics... Rails are definitely 1 1/2 inches... I wasn't so surprised at having to use Accufast cushions as I was at the price! They do have the canvas control fabric.

    accufast cushions

I'm rehabbing an older Olhausen table I recently purchased and am looking at replacing the cloth and cushions. Since it was built in January of 1990, I'm sure it doesn't have Accufast cushions. I can't tell if they're grey or white in color because of age, but they definitely aren't the...

Just My Thought On Short Players

I always make it a point to play a few racks with my off-hand when I practice. It's interesting to see the psychological effect it has on an opponent when I switch up hands, too. I very rarely need a bridge unless it's a long stretch no matter which side I approach from.
