Who is the Person that has influenced your Pool Life the most?

If I had to narrow it down to one... My friend Devin, in Waco, Tx. When I moved there, I though I was a pretty decent player. Then he started kicking my ass on a regular basis and taught me there were many levels above the plateau I had reached in the sport of billiards. He made me want to...

    Isn't there enough proof yet?

Then again, they were playing straight pool, which is continuous and doesn't allow for alternate break.

    Isn't there enough proof yet?

Or, as Fast Eddie put it, "I'm shootin' pool Fats. When I miss, you can shoot."

    Isn't there enough proof yet?

Not if you're the opponent, you don't.

What did you learn in your last loss?

I could write a book based on my experience with this issue... It happens damn near every straight pool break shot I have.

What did you learn in your last loss?

What did I learn?... 1) No lead is safe. 2) Concentrate on the shot at hand, not the next three you're planning to shoot after this one. 3) No matter what the score or what your opponent is doing, play your own game. 4) Have a very short memory. If you miss, forget about it. The past can't...

    headphones during matches

I'm not sure what the rules are on coaching during a match (assuming they were playing a tournament). But if there is a no coaching rule, then I can understand why the opponent would want them to speak English, or stop speaking period. And I can understand why this would make headphones not...

    Nicknames?

Wasn't Rudolph Wanderone originally known as "New York Fats" and changed to Minnesota Fats after the book came out (though he claimed he had the name first)? Or am I just making that up?

Do you, or someone you know, play a whole lot better when they're pissed off?

It depends on why I am pissed off... Sometimes, especially if it is my opponent that pisses me off, it motivates me to sharpen my focus and shoot above my weight. Other times, it overwhelms me and I play even worse. But I don't enjoy playing that way even when I win. I would rather just be...

To Concede Or Not To Concede - That Is The Question

Since when is expecting someone to do their job a sign of disrespect? If you wish to concede shots that is your business and I won't criticize it. But it doesn't show more or less respect to the recipient. And it certainly has no bearing on the popularity, or lack thereof, in golf, pool or...

To Concede Or Not To Concede - That Is The Question

If he can't make the last ball, especially an "easy" shot, then he doesn't deserve to win. The person who deserves to win is the one who makes the fewest mistakes.

2016 AZ Billiards Straight Pool Challenge!

New High Run (23) Last night, I had a high run of 23 in a match for my 14.1 League. I took over the table with all 15 balls on it after my opponent had played safe on his break shot. I ran the rack, broke open the next and ran 9 balls before rattling a very simple rail shot in the corner pocket.

New High Run for the Year (18) Put me down for an 18 that I managed to run the other night in practice. A small step, but a distinct one.
