Sensitivity of Power Draw Shots - Physics or Mechanics?

OK, thanks for the info. First, your bridge: Try to flatten your bridge hand as much as possible so that you're not shooting down more than necessary at the cb. Next, check the angle of your third finger in your bridge, and how the shaft of your cue sits on that third finger. Is your cue...

stance- good places to point feet?

As we all know, pool is different from many other athletic stances because the player is bent over in his or her stance. So when you talk about being grounded --- I assume you mean balanced --- it has a different meaning than with an upright standing athlete. You have to counter the weight...

Sensitivity of Power Draw Shots - Physics or Mechanics?

Dan, do you use an open or closed bridge for the shots you described? Also, what kind of grip do you have on those shots? Loose? Medium? Tight? Are you starting loose and ending tight? I think it's possible that your mechanics change when you switch to power draw. You can't always rely on...

Should Mosconi Cup have one woman

Hi Stu. It's my understanding that it wasn't ratings that caused Matchroom to abandon the women. The issues were there before the broadcast. It's not my place to go into details publicly.

Is this cue too feminine for a guy?

I don't consider that a feminine cue at all. It's just a flashy cue for someone who likes extremely bright, showy colors. Many women as well as men would reject that simply because it's too loud. I doubt you'd see a woman pro playing with something that loud.

STROKE TIMING … A Complete MythBusting Study of Stroke Acceleration Effects

Interesting analogy, but really, it's not at all like shooting a gun. The main reason for looking at the ob last is because it's a necessary step in determining the speed of the shot. You need to see the distance the cb has to travel as you move your cue. That's why pool is a hand-eye...

STROKE TIMING … A Complete MythBusting Study of Stroke Acceleration Effects

Well, I think the point that's being made here is that a good or bad stroke doesn't affect tip contact time. However, tip placement is a different story. What makes a person feel a good or bad stroke and where the tip strikes the cue ball, comes from experience, which is basically memory. The...

STROKE TIMING … A Complete MythBusting Study of Stroke Acceleration Effects

Exactly. What's most important for the player is to know what it feels like to do it successfully, whatever it is they're trying to accomplish on a shot. So their frame of reference may feel like they're decelerating. I know mine is that way with kill shots. It feels like I'm decelerating...

Played shockingly bad with a house cue with an extremely rounded tip. Was the tip actually less forgiving of stroke/tip placement errors?

The main culprit was most likely the difference in cue deflections, weight and balance points. The difference in tips could cause you some issues but not to the extent you're describing.

    Cue alignment???

That's okay. It was a bit of a hard catch. You have to study the video he posted to see it. It's not something that's easily seen. I thought your post was interesting about the natural arm swing. I think though, with a pendulum type arm swing, the follow through is where the bottom half of the...

    Cue alignment???

His cue is already angled-inward at address.

    Cue alignment???

Stop the video at 7 seconds and you'll see your problem. See how your cue is angled inward? It's your approach. You start out straddling the shot line, which is fine, but you have to make an adjustment to get your back foot on the shot line or you'll wind up at that point at 7 seconds into the...

Is a ‘firm’ grip and ‘short’ backswing okay?

Well, it depends on what happens to that gap as your armswing approaches impact. When you're first learning, loose grips are not that easy to manage as the cue moves through the stroke. It's a natural instinct to want to hang on to the cue as your arm moves, so depending on how you hang on to...

Is a ‘firm’ grip and ‘short’ backswing okay?

Not all loose grips are alike. There are bad ones and good ones. Tight grips serve a purpose on some shots, but you should be able to do both successfully. If the loose grip you're experimenting with isn't working, then try other loose grips.

When Working on Your Fundamentals - Maximum Number of Key Thoughts You Can Work On at One Time

It depends on what you're trying to change. Some things work together which makes it unrealistic to change one without the other. For example: Feet position and balance (how you're leaning) go together. You can't fix one without fixing the other. Another example: Arm swing, grip and eyes go...

Does playing pool make you smarter?

Well, it sounded to me like you saw me as a fool. I've been around the block some. I'm not that naive.

Does playing pool make you smarter?

It seems you're crucifying me for saying the words "I know where you're coming from, but..." So how about you lay off me --- who does actually have some expertise in this field. You've made your point several posts ago.

Does playing pool make you smarter?

You've seen me tell people off. But this guy's not offending me. His ideas are out there, but he's not claiming to be an expert like some others.

Does playing pool make you smarter?

I read it as she set a new standard of playing style among the women, (with her snooker style,) which was true back then, which makes her a pioneer of sorts --- and she did host several training weekends, which makes her a trainer, and I thought Roadrunner was some kind of pool playing app he...

Does playing pool make you smarter?

Yes, I can see that he's thinking out loud, basically. I respond to stuff like that only when it appears that the facts have been distorted, intentionally or not. I like to set the record straight when possible.
