Mark Wilson on sidespin to pocket balls

That isn't a case where one "has" to use it. That is also a case where it can become a crutch that affects one's sense of aim and reduces the development of one's abilities. People should learn how to make shots without sidespin so they can develop a much better sense of cue ball control and the...

Mark Wilson on sidespin to pocket balls

People should learn how to make balls without sidespin first then slowly add it in as they gain experience. Otherwise, sidespin can be a crutch that actually limits player development (ie, I can only make this shot with outside because that's all I've ever done).

Attention all tech nerds.... the AK-147... GETCHA SUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So if someone were to design a variation of that item that is actually at least 36" long, would it then be allowed? I think he missed the actual underlying issue of that question. I also think it should be possible to design one of those with variable retractable positions for different speeds...

New WPA Official Rules of Pool … Learn About All the Changes

agreed. That was included in my #1 above, but probably deserves to be split out into its own list item for the the reasons you elaborated.

New WPA Official Rules of Pool … Learn About All the Changes

I agree with this. I am a big proponent of all-ball fouls, even in league play. I understand why cue ball-only fouls exists as a rule, as it is deemed to be less demanding and "uptight" to newer players, on which leagues rely to survive. However, the rule is often misunderstood, is actually...

New WPA Official Rules of Pool … Learn About All the Changes

Any idea how these WPA changes will filter down to CSI and therefore BCAPL? I'm most curious about the all-ball fouls rule.

    Lifting Weights before a Tournament?

If you lift weights regularly you should not be getting "sore." For me, I feel like I do worse the same day because my muscles are still recovering. I don't feel like I can deliver the cue as precisely on average (although I do on occasion surprise myself). So I try to play on days I haven't...

    Ultimate Pool USA Boston Shootout

Agree. I do not like watching 8-ball much, but enjoyed this event. I still have reservations about turning pool into essentially speed-pool, and think the 6ball shootout should just be one more rack of actual pool, but the event did keep my attention for the duration which no 8-ball event before...

I watched a couple of your matches and did not realize I was watching a fellow AZB'er. Congratulations! Great showing!

    Ultimate Pool USA Boston Shootout

I would like to know these answers, as well. Edit: ok I see the answers above. Would be nice if the stream included this information at some point or periodically because I watched quite a bit and never heard/saw an answer.

    Ultimate Pool USA Boston Shootout

Yeah, if anything that might have been his version of a compliment to her, rating her higher than other partners he's had. "See everyone else? Do what I say and we will win!"

    Ultimate Pool USA Boston Shootout

I'll grant tone-deaf and can come across as an a-hole, but from my observation he treats his male and female doubles partners the same way (for better or for worse). He is just laser-focused on winning and playing the correct way and that comes across in directing his partners to a somewhat...

How often do you see your local players with a really good, and solid Pre shot routine?

I can speak from experience here: have you put on any weight? Also, I promise your mechanics can drift over time, even if you don't notice it. (Also, can speak from experience.) I recently rebuilt my stroke for the second time in four years, at the direction of Mark Wilson. I was worse for a...

Bring Your Own Pool Balls - BYOPB?

Bring your own balls if you want to play with your own balls. No gatekeeping on that decision. I bring my own if I'm playing with intent (practice or matching up with someone) at an otherwise grimy pool hall. So not often, but once or twice a year on average.

How often do you see your local players with a really good, and solid Pre shot routine?

Indeed. The idea is that doing things the "textbook" way will make your journey to being a strong player faster and easier, not that it will happen overnight. If you continue how you are and put in dedicated practice, maybe you get to their level after say (just throwing numbers out here) 3000...

How often do you see your local players with a really good, and solid Pre shot routine?

An almost universally accepted school of thought is that a person's grip should be where their arm is perfectly perpendicular when the cue would be impacting the cue ball. For most people 5'10" or above, that will be quite far back on the cue.

Do you have special shoes for shooting pool?

Crocs when I'm playing at home. Comfortable, easy on and off. Skecher's relaxed fit for when I'm out. Same as the above, but a little more presentable for being out in public.

Stats -- Shane Van Boening vs. Fedor Gorst 10-Ball Race to 120, June 2025

Yeah I don't know how much worse Shane's break was than it normally is (I assume at least somewhat, by some objective metric) but what really stood out to me was how dialed in Fedor's break was. Not has hard as SVB, but very solid, while squatting the cue ball perfectly and having seemingly 2-3...
