    LF: Opinions on Olhausen Tables

I have an 8 foot pro Olhausen Remington. I really like the way it plays, but have also noticed that the corner pockets rattle a ton of balls. Other than that, no complaints. But when I was buying it I was comparing it to other furniture style tables, not diamonds or GCs. My wife said go with...

    Shooting pool, drinking....don't drive.

My sentiments exactly. Believe it or not, his comments on another thread about drunk driving are even dumber. Thanks for calling him out. I should have done so in my first post. Something tells me that if one of his (Poolplayer2093) friends or family members were killed by a drunk driver he...

Nearest 9' Diamond Pro Am to Chicago?

I live in Northwest Indiana and I've never seen one here. I'm almost positive there aren't any in Lake county, IN. I doubt there are any in Porter either. Pro-Tyme in Orland Park, IL, has a 7 foot smart table, if that helps you at all. Where in South Bend has them? I'm there for work here...

    Shooting pool, drinking....don't drive.

Thanks for posting. I am also a strong opponent of drunk driving. I spent eight years working as a prosecutor in Miami. The first year out of law school I prosecuted hundreds of DUIs. A few years later I convicted a guy of driving drunk and getting in an accident and killing his girlfriend...

My observations after two APA sessions..

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I, too, just started playing league this year (Illiana APA in South Suburban ChicagoNorthwest Indiana. I'm impressed by how FEW sore losers and bad sports there are. Most people are very cool, and it brings together people from all walks of life. My only...

Left my cue in the freezing cold

Like a bonehead, I left my cue in the car last night. And all day today, in the freezing (11 degree) Chicago cold. What kind of damage will that do? I took it down to my basement table, and it rolls straight and seems fine. Might I have done some damage?

    My review of Velocity Pro

Not to hijack, but did you consider the tournament 3030 as a less expensive Simonis alternative? I've played on it once, and really liked it. For what it's worth, I have olive cloth on my home table (Simonis 860) and everyone who plays on it comments that they like the color.

Looking for a league team in Indy

If you want to come up to the grim, ugly part of Indiana (Northwest Indiana) I've got a team for ya. It's quite a drive for you, but you'll get to breathe some really disgusting air from East Chicago, Hammond and Gary!

    Zen Pool by Max Eberle

Nice post, Eric. I read the first edition of "Zen Pool" and enjoyed it. At your suggestion, I'll pick up the new edition soon. I'm sure we all have little things that we say to ourself in our heads when we are playing a tough match, or about to shoot a tough shot. I myself say the words "Zen...

    Diamond Vs Valley Bar Boxes?

Nothing drives me crazier than playing with the mudball. Does a 7 foot diamond professional play that much differently than a 7 foot smart table or pro am? I've only played on the smart tables (and a million valley's, of course)

    Need reasonably good house cues

I also use both one piece schmelke's with the bocote butt for house cues, and a schmelke cocobolo sneaky for a house cue. Call them and tell them what you want as far as the taper goes.

    ................................

If I was going to put my table in my basement, and couldn't accomodate a one piece slate.... AND I was cool with either drop pockets or ball return.... At that point is there any reason to get the three piece slate Pro am over the professional?

Straight pool hot spots in the USA,

My impression is that there are a decent number of straight pool players in the Chicago area. Red Shoes billiards in Alsip (near Midway airport) has a straight pool league. Not sure how many guys play in it, but I know that there are some strong players.

What's a fair price on Brunswick player's chairs?

I've got the guy down to $350 for two of them. Sound fair? Plus, it's a short drive from me so no shipping costs.

What's a fair price on Brunswick player's chairs?

I have a table in my basement and have always wanted one (or two) of those cool looking Brunswick player's chairs. They go for something high like $600-$700 new at Great Escape and stores like that. Sometimes I see them on Craigslist as part of a package with a Brunswick table. I'm currently...

question about schon, joss, mezz, etc

Hi. I'm pretty new to the world of cues, and have a very simple question: Why is it that a lot of the high end production cues (Schon, Mezz, Joss, Pechauer, new Ob-1 cues) are offered with (for the most part) only ss joints? What percentage of the pool playing world plays with a stainless...
