    Need reasonably good house cues

Duffern Joe, Ten years ago I went to the Conte pool supply in Upstate NY. The let me look through dozens of Dufferns. I picked a 18 and 19 with nice striaght shaft wood. Put LePro's on them and everyone is happy. You can sand in any taper you want. my 2 cents........Paul

    originality vs ugly

Go for it If it plays solid whats the difference? I believe that the few I've tried out do play solid. Paint it up and enjoy it. Get good cloth like you stated, if it plays good buy quality Brunswick Centennials balls. Everything hinges on how well it plays. regards.......Paul Hope it...

Dennis Hatch's Custom Mike Gulyassy Cue

Possible he has 314 shafts that are the same pin. He was using 314 shafts long ago and believe he still is. I did that when ordering a custom cue. It is one very nice tribute to Dennis and great work by Mike regards....Paul

    Video Encyclopedia of Pool Shots

You just keepblowing me away with these. Dave, It's more of the same great instruction that the first DVD has. The squirt/swerve portion is something I've used for a while evaluating cues. One thing I learned was about BHE and the break. I don't use BHE and while understanding it always...

    The old forum days

I miss the forums from a decade ago I first found rec.sport.billiards and alt.sport.pool in early 1998. It was like finding the holy grail. Back then there were maybe 20-25 active posters and much was learned and discussed. Some of the flaming was too much to take and some was tolerable. I...

    Willie Jopling's death

As some have mentioned he was a true southern gentleman. I had the good fortune to meet and converse with Willie many times. It was he who freely gave me some simple yet very effective tips on making shots. I’m honored to own his two volume one pocket tapes and will appreciate them now more...

Buying a Brunswick Gold Crown III

Here's my 2 cents and some facts In the Upstate NY in 1998 GCIII with runners cost $3300 if you were a Brunswick dealer, Came with Brunswick cloth. Every 10 tables ordered got you 1 free. The dealer (a friend) put 860HR on all of them. I own one, purchased after the pool hall of the above...

    A question

Like Scott Lee I play for the enjoyment and beauty of the game. Includes, your opponent, your cue, the table, balls, the atmosphere. When they are all to my liking the game is most enjoyable. Some of the things mentioned above vary at times. But having a majority of them present is pure joy...

    S.A.M Method

I must have it confused with something else then. I feel terrible about this. Evidently, his system and saying these numbers (2,7,4)are not SAM and all this time I thought it was. My apologies. None the less, read the post that started this and then read his latest. He went from zero...

    S.A.M Method

Many people have taken SAM school. A player in my room did. He used to mumble during pre-shot, 3, 6 or 2. Whatever the number for that shot was. He finally dropped it after using it over 1 year. He shot pretty well with it and the same without it, I think better. He became less stiff, his...

REP - broderline NPR, Moderator feel free to move

Do you feel the need to rep every thread you believe stands out? I would rather REP and use the comments to tell why. Obviously, sometime you feel the need to reply. Just wondering. BTW, my first poll so forgive me if this somehow (read: 50% chance) gets messed up. So it was supposed to...
