I've played waaaaay too much quality 1P to not see a trap when it's played. *grin*

    Statistics and pool

Here's an easy-to-read article about the "Hot Hands" fallacy: http://conferences.inf.ed.ac.uk/cogsci2001/pdf-files/0152.pdf I'm no doubter about being in dead stroke. In another thread I talked about, "flow" in rock climbing. And when I skate, I'm pretty much in flow the entire time--no sense...

I keep getting drawn back into these threads, in spite of good sense telling me to stop. *grin* I like rock climbing because you can either make a hard move or not. The rock doesn't care anything about you, or how you do it. You just have to figure it out. The techniques are few and simple. If...

    Statistics and pool

Statistically speaking, "dead stroke" may be an outlier--data that should be thrown out since it deviates too far from the norm, and will skew things. Unless you're in dead stroke all the time. How much better do you actually play when you are in dead stroke?

    I surrender

Trust me--I wish I knew. Nobody seems to have published much about the physics of it, and I'm too lazy to do the work myself. Here's what I think is true. Most of the time, for most people, 40-42 inches, 9 ounces, and a hard tip. But...and it's a really big "but", I've seen people do well with...

    Statistics and pool

I guess I should say something about another thing that might not be so obvious from the initial post. What happens if you play sets all night long? Well, you treat each set as if it were a game in the original analysis. If your chance of winning a set is 55%, then your chance of winning 8 out...

    I surrender

Welcome to the dark side. The best answer to your questions is, "No one really knows". You will, however, get lots of opinions...some of which will sound very scientific, some will be anecdotal, and then, at least one person will try to sell you something. Borrow as many as you can from friends...

    Do you click on links?

Thanks for that. I never realized that would be a reason folks might not use them. I guess I'm too trusting here.

    Do you click on links?

Some of us use links lots in our posts--me, for instance. It'd be kind of nice to know if this is a useful thing to do.

    Statistics and pool

There are a lot of great, simple ideas from statistics that can be used for pool. For instance, if you are slightly better than another player (or versa vice) what are the odds of winning a race to something? Suppose they are slightly better than you...let's say 55% of the time they'll win a...

Indiana almost voted to change the value of pi once: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indiana_Pi_Bill Nay or yea, I think my first post in this thread explains what's really happening. If it works for you, use it. Tell others, maybe it'll work for them. Me? I believe in all aiming systems. Some do...

Heck, I'll just copy myself from the other thread: "I believe in aiming systems. Even bogus ones. Because I believe in the human ability to adjust. I think every aiming system gives people a focus that they don't normally have, and that they make unconscious adjustments to make those systems...

I believe in aiming systems. Even bogus ones. Because I believe in the human ability to adjust. I think every aiming system gives people a focus that they don't normally have, and that they make unconscious adjustments to make those systems work. Some systems are better than others, but the real...

    Mosconi on aiming .

Exactly what I showed in my post! Thank you for the endorsement. Does this mean I can use you on my DVD and book cover? I know you found it independently, but since it supports what I'm selling, I hope you'll let me use it.... Of course, it's only part of the system. Did you also agree with...

    Mosconi on aiming .

I realized there is one other area in which my aiming system is a big help: the 9-ball break. I've always had a weak break, unable to really develop any true power, but by adjusting my aiming system a little, I was able to overcome this limitation: Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you how I...

    Mosconi on aiming .

Uh...well...gee. Let me tell you about my aiming system. It's fresh in my memory, because I just taught it to my wife a couple of years ago. I'd put a object ball on the table in one of the more common positions, and ask her to make it. After she did it a couple of times, I'd move the cue ball a...

    Mosconi on aiming .

Gosh. I try to stay out of these things, but after reading 7 pages, I just have to say something. Quoting myself quoting Byrne quoting Mcgoorty talking about Hoppe, in another thread: I know it's not about aiming as it's being discussed here, but it has the same flavor. Aiming systems are...

    Pool's greatest kept secrets--REVEALED!!!

Well, the guy I met said he was Thursday Lobsang Rampa...but you know how sneaky hustlers can be. Chuck Norris is a wuss! When my daughter was in Girl Scouts, and Norris was in his prime, she knocked on his door to try to sell him some cookies. He said, "I don't want no stinkin' cookies!" She...
