What is the best way to handicap a local tournament?

The tables were open and there were only 4 of them. The tournament took about 5 + hours to play (started at 7:30 on a Friday night) and the bar more than made it's money on the food and beer.

What is the best way to handicap a local tournament?

One of the tournaments I played in when i was younger used the following A players - race to 3 (a high end 6 or 7 in APA was an A player for this format) everyone else - race to 2 also the tournament payed top 3 and for anyone in the money the previous 2 weeks, their opponent needed 1 less...

    Heartless apa lo !!!

Joe, I do feel very sorry for the friends and family of the person that had the heart attack. I am not a callous individual at all. In fact, had it been my team, we would have dropped out of the tournament. I have actually done that in the past at a travveling tournament. The guy I went with...

    Heartless apa lo !!!

Just for the record, if you delay one match, it effects every match from there on out. If the 8:00 match needs to wait until 12:00, the the 12:00 cant go till 4:00 and the 4:00 till 8:00. It pushes the entire event back 1 round. I know that woukld be hard for you to understand, but please try...

    Heartless apa lo !!!

The point I was trying to make is that to many of the people playing, it is comparible as this is their one big event of the year when they can win something big. You obviously do not get it. You must be so good and play in so many big events that the fact that a lower skilled player considers...

That is true. There are probably a few bad apples out there as there are in all professions.

    Heartless apa lo !!!

Ken, with all due respect, in no other tournament that i have played in can a match be delayed without disrupting the schedule of at least some of the other teams down the road. Eventually the winner of that match has to play someone else that had to wait for them to finish, and then someone...

    Heartless apa lo !!!

What you are forgetting is that this is the equivalent of the US Open for the lower-mid skilled players. This is what they play for all year. It may not mean the same to you and I, but that does not mean that to 80% or more of the players it is their big event. It is the 1 big tournament they...

    Heartless apa lo !!!

Based on your comment then I assume that if at the US Open, Earl and Archer are playing and one of them has a health problem that involves hospitalization, then the TD should just cancel the tournament and screw the other 254 players that entered. Get your head out of your A$$. It is a...

    My Last APA Post

Thats too bad that you did not have a good experience at your county tournament . Just a couple of quick questions. If you were playing in the tournament, why did you put so much effort into trying to figure out who else would win and not focus on your own team. Is it really possible that you...

    APA league operators question...

In our area the L.O. gives each player $800 per player for travel, accomodation and spending but the catch is that you have to go to Vegas to get the $800. If you choose not to go (or can't go), he gives the player $300 and the rest of the money goes into cheaper singles boards the next year -...

played a whole team of 6s

So let me get this straight. You are am admitted sandbagger and now that you lost, you can only assume that the other team is sandbagging as well. Sounds to me like you dumped for so long that when the chips were down, you just couldn't bring your game. I would guess (without knowing the...

    League Rage.

A number of years ago I played both APA and 2 of the regional tours on a regular basis. I didn't worry abouth the handicap or rating systems either in league or on the 1 tour that had a handicap aspect to it. I currently only play in a legaue now and once again never really worry about the...

How Far Would You Travel For A Team Event That Added $25,000?

Hi Tom. I have played in some of your events in Toledo years ago. They were always a great time. I would drive 12 or more hours to play in that style of event and would not have a hard time finding teamamtes to join me.

    I Heard Something Very Odd

We were told the same ruling at our captains meeting last night. Our Cities are this weekend coming up. We were told it was for 2 reasons. 1) on a couple of different occasions in other ares, the sitting player has either called a foul or asked for a ref and because the shooting player did not...

When you play APA they find a way to screw you.

In our area we don't play masters in the summer and all that is required is that the 4 players who are going to the masters in vegas need to be on a team in any other divison (8-ball or 9-ball) for the summer session. I was told by my L.O. that is an APA rule. In my area, if a team wins the...

Which Vegas trip is the best

Having been to both the BCA and APA events, i would think it is pretty much a tie. Both have basically the same vendors so that is a wash. BCA singles are run at the same time APA - so big that singles has to be run as a separate event at another time BCA has better competition - no...

Snooker World No. 1 John Higgins in betting scandal

I have to agree with gromulan, if these guys made money by dumping an event, then they are o better then Higgins. The only difference is the amount of money involved. If that story is indeed true, then why was this basically swept under the table and most of these guys continued to play and...
