Positive lifelong benefits of billiards/pool (Short bullet points)

I was about to write how helpful it is for mental health, especially in pandemic times. At least for those who own tables. But then I thought of the absolute nut cases who post here endlessly. Yes, there is such a thing as a stupid question. Between Ask the Instructor, NPR and here there is...

    Getting Real

I think in depends on the table. As a kid (18 in NY) playing in bars on coin-op it was always 8 on the break wins. No one knew what nine ball was, much less 9/6. Because of the tight tables 6.5' you could combo off anything but the eight. An OB carom off the eight was good. The only call you...

    What Shafts Draw better ???

Indian, arrow, I don't know. Couple of years back I bought a McDermott/Star Go-Cue for motorcycle touring. Now I don't use it much, not at all this last year as the pandemic grounded my long distance riding. But given my same wobbly stroke on any particular cue I do best with this 3 piece...

Physical Conditioning routine for aging billiard players

Black-Balled, please stop. I haven't formed a closed bridge in over ten years because of arthritis. Stop reminding me.

Case - What is your preference

Depends on how your traveling. In the sixties I used an aluminum tube case made for fishing rods. I lived by motorcycle, it was perfect for open road conditions. Fifty years later I bought a new one made for cues from Prather. It's my most used case because I'm still riding all over. Held to my...

Best cue for beginner - middle of the road player

Buy a fatter McDermott shaft. Made in the USA. Send no money to the Chi-Coms.

Physical Conditioning routine for aging billiard players

Oh yeah. More than fifty years ago I was a fairly good surfer. Goofy foot comes from the water world not cement sidewalks. And yes it means leading with the right foot. Also surfing a left handed break. But this is justnum, so a certain amount of credibility is a given.

What type of audience is best for tv pool?

Hey, is there anything more boring than watching golf? Yeah, maybe tennis. My point is simply, if you don't play the game there's a serious disconnect. As a kid I watched baseball with extreme interest. Now even the series puts me to sleep by the bottom of the second. Whereas football is...

    Legends of Pool

Northeast NJ. 14 miles from midtown. Forever my mother was saying, "don't ever be one of those, deez, dems and dozers" So I learned to speak proper English, when home.

    New table advice

I have both a GC 4 and a 6.5 Valley in my basement. Everybody is willing to sell, deliver and set up a Gold Crown. Almost nobody is willing to move a Valley to a basement. And I had a six foot wide stair well with a straight shot down and into the pool room. So I finally got my barbox too. But...

    New table advice

For $1,500 you could get an older Gold Crown and keep it fairly beat and not yell at the kids. Then when they are older and hopefully responsible, you can have a full on restoration. GC's are forever.

    Leon Sly?

What we have here is another Jackpot related incident. As a billiards consumer I like to know the background dealings of builders, sellers, table mechanics etc. How else do you know who to trust with your business? A shady past is indeed indicative of a person's future credibility.

What carpet should i put under my table

I used commercial grade carpet in my basement thirteen years ago with a GC sitting on top. Works great. This past year I added a barbox in an adjoining area that has a laminate floor. Now I'm searching for a area rug big and neutral enough to work. In a home it's nice to have carpeting.

    Kinister 1 hour workout

Pandemic related frustration. I've been trying to nail #4 since last April. I think I did it once after walking into my basement and pot, plop, I made it. But I didn't pay any attention and don't know how it happened. That was six months ago. I may never get close again. I hate this.

Worst and best cue you have ever used

I have three that I really like, depending on biorythms I guess. It's day to day. Over the long haul I keep going back to a Bob Frey sneaky.

Worst and best cue you have ever used

Worst, a Chinese fake McDermott house cue made to look like a Duff with the window on the butt with a little shamrock in it. And stamped McDermott 10oz mid way. It has a hollow sound when used it even sounds ugly. I'm going to use it as a bridge stick.

Asking for a friend. What is the best cheaper Sneaky Pete to buy

How on earth is a four pointer with butterflies called a sneaky? For that matter cues with collars, rings, veneers, wraps, doo-dads and anything more than four points? A real sneaky where the grain matches up at the joint is a thing of beauty in and of itself.

    Looking for pool table mechanic

I knew a Vanessa I met from her name and number on a phone booth on the Baltimore waterfront. Is that the one? Like forty years ago?
