Covid and Gold Crown Billiards, Erie PA

The very best of luck to both Paul and Chris. Hopefully with careful planning and an effective vaccine you can open full tilt come spring. Chris I tour your way on motorcycle twice a year in spring and fall. So now that's two trips I've missed your shop. Plus I wanted to hit the "Beat the Heat"...

Guess who’s in my local room this week...

Hey, he didn't have one foot on the floor. PJ gets ball in hand.

    Using the breath during stroke

Jay Helfert addresses this subject in his "My Little Black Book" of pool secrets. In fact it's under the first subject matter, be still. He should be along shortly to explain.

Help needed, pictures and old tournament posters

Posters, some signed can be gotten from Jay Helfert a long time member here. Or, www.jayhelfert.com I've had real good luck just searching "billiards photos" on google. Some real nice old time black & white from back in the day.

Have you any good stories about underworld characters you met in Pool Rooms?

Steve, was this or do you remember the pool hall at Main and Henry, in Passaic, over the Montauk theater? And do you know of another on Paterson Ave? I believe Wallington or maybe just over the border in East Rutherford. Guys & Dolls? Just a block or so east of RT. 507 intersection.

    New cue purchasers

I understand how the old timers think that the older made cues, shafts and tables were of better quality. I'm a geezer myself and can relate. But all these posts about Schon is a bit unfair. The OP never mentioned the brand or dealer. Saying "S" is totally meaningless. Back it up with facts...

    Table question

Hell, I had a hard time finding someone to move a 6.5 foot Valley down a six foot wide set of stairs straight into my basement. No turns, nothing. My nine foot Gold Crown, no problem.

    Playing Glasses

Another option is shooting glasses or frames made by Randolph Engineering. These are made for shooting sports, (guns) and some models have an adjustable bridge that make them perfect for pool. They can be had at better opticians. Just explain what they are for and you get a truly custom fit. No...

    Bump or Flaw in refinishing?

All it takes for a defect like that is a spot of silicone or some such contaminate to lift the finish.

Why I'll never own a pool table

I have two. And in my retirement neighborhood there's another half a dozen within two blocks. There's a group of regulars that play together and another group that use the clubhouse. Our group has better tables, lights, cues, ball sets and much cheaper beer and better food. I bought the second...

    Where Am I?

Yeah, windless days make small bore a rip. I use my father's Remington #37 Range master with 16X micrometer mount scope, floating barrel and two set screws up front that you set with a test light to allow for weather/humidity. Best trigger I ever felt. Bugs are good targets.

    Predator/Lucid light...............??

Rick, would a nine foot light be light enough to hang with toggle bolts in a sheet rock ceiling?

The man who fell to earth CBS All Access.

Hang the nine, pretending no. He knows who Mr. Tevis was. It's just another troll. That's what I meant about a terrible thing to waste. All this drama for attention. His cry for help. Imagine a life build around trolling forums. I will no longer feed this troll.

The man who fell to earth CBS All Access.

Considering the amount of time you spend here, I am surprised you admit to not knowing who Walter Tevis is. A mind is a terrible thing to waste.

    Mezz EC7 vs. EC9

I'm looking to buy either a EC9 or save $140. and get a EC7. What is the difference between a WX700 and the Sigma shaft? They both alluded to a pro taper which is what I'm after. Is it just the Mezz sales talk? I wanted to test drive these cues at SBE but that all turned to crap and maybe even...

    Thinking about writing a book...

What Black-Balled said about therapy is very true. Deep in my computer are short stories from my twenty nine years on the job. Mostly things I remember only on sleepless nights. That's because I pushed them out of my consciousness forty years ago. "Death sells". I stopped counting when I...
