    help me get a clue

thanks, Johnny. actually the only one of those balls that had a pocket was the 5; not sure now why i Didn't slide up for it at that moment, but i certainly thought of it and looked at it, so maybe there was a reason. maybe it was tight and i was pretty close and going across the line? but that...

    help me get a clue

last month i finally got my table set up again; it's very tight quarters, have to use a short stick if i'm on the rail, but that's actually a Real good reminder of what Steve Matthieu told me, that i was always leaving the cue ball on the rail, so now i'm doing that a lot less. after a few...

    Video from Derby

thank you, Dennis! Huidji See's run must have set the record for distance traveled by the cue ball in a 100 ball run. some pretty astonishing "patterns", especially in the last few racks.

Gene "Iron" Mann: Unsung hero of World Tournament of 14.1

Gene, that was some of the most erudite and witty pool commentary i've ever heard, worthy of succession to the late and lamented George Fels. a real pleasure to hear you.

Starts in 12 mins!!! 74th World 14.1 !! USA vs France first

stream is ok, no lags, but seems pretty low-res, less than 480. something i need to do at this end? don't get me wrong: i'd rather have stability at this resolution than dropping. but want to make sure i'm getting what you're delivering.

    Video from Derby

the bank shot out of the full stack is in Ray Martin's 99 Critical Shots book. he details where to position the cue ball, the english to use, and where to hit the top ball. i've made it several times, but missed it many more. it looked to me like Ralf had studied that shot, because he got...

Nature vs Nurture: New study in favor of Nature

as a musician, it is obvious why this study found little difference between the twins: the tests described are childlishly simple for anyone who's done ANY amount of music. so even extreme differences in practice wouldn't make a whit of difference.

    A Letter from Mike Dechaine

Mike, i have to admit to being one of those who didn't always root for you previously. but coming on top of playing some super pool lately, this message put you up about 6 notches in my eyes as a class act who rises above adversity. congratulations on your vision and perspective on life and...

    beta blockers/Propranolol & pool

as you mention, this has been studied a Lot in the music performance world. i've played serious golf, pool, and music, and let me tell you right now, nothing -- NOTHING -- is anything like being on stage alone in front of 500 people and the only thing those eyeballs and ears are getting is You...

A couple of 40s for your critique

beautiful stroke and fundamentals, man! especially in the first one. the 2nd one you seemed more on edge, were rushing and raising your head and jumping a bit, but it didn't seem to affect the results, and your fundamentals still beat the crap outta mine. what do you use the 4 white dots for --...

    Cue ball in rack question

interesting, Dennis; so it depends upon which part of section 4.8 you follow. the chart contradicts the procedural logic stated in the textual rules above. further, it would over-ride 4.8(d) even for a ball that was clearly Forward of the head string if (and Only if) that ball also overlaps the...

    Cue ball in rack question

here's the full WPA rule 4.8 (d): (d) If only the cue ball interferes, then it is placed as follows: if the object ball is in front of or on the head string, the cue ball is in hand behind the head string; if the object ball is behind the head string, the cue ball is spotted on the head spot, or...

    Best Production Cue for $400-$500??

i really love my Lucasi Hybrid. most underrated cue out there, imo. much better feel than Predator, and i like the shaft taper better than OB (which is otherwise a great cue, as well). Thorsten Hohmann seems to hit ok with Lucasi.
