do the pros outweigh the cons when using quality shaft wax?

This is when you burnish it on your t shirt. But straightline has it right, that's not the wax, that's filth from either chalk or hand oil. Guys with CF carry a microfiber towel, because hand oils quickly build up. You either get distracted by seeing oil splotches while playing or the splotches...

    What is your definition..,

"He's a pro level player." Mean's something different than "He's a pro pool player."

Anybody have any experience trying to switch your dominant eye?

You're onto something but the definition sticklers will say that's not the definition of dominate eye. You can purposely (or subconsciously) focus more with another eye and it can work out well. You have two eyes, learning to use them and how eye focus and convergence works is a very powerful...

    What is your definition..,

IMO it's someone they usually put on TV tables. Fargorate in the top 100 or so. I've seen them call anyone over 650 "master level" meaning they are probably going to win if the pros don't show up and demonstrate great knowledge and skill. It probably depends greatly on the local pool culture...

Noob question, is my cutting bit dull?

So yeah... I sharpened it on a grinding wheel and it cut 10X better. 😄 Thanks again!

EYE PATTERN “Best Practices” … Cue Ball or Object Ball Focus Last?

I can do it either way. On a cinch shot I am CB last. On elevated shots and jump shots I am CB last. If CB shape is a must, including some safeties, I'm CB last. If I'm just freewheeling on "normal" shots I'll go OB last. You can look at anything for a different perspective, it really doesn't...

Old Matches - How important is commentary?

Commentary wouldn't be necessary but hopefully you can hear the balls/crowd sounds. It could be a fun thing to get the player to commentate on the match if it were a really special one and could be arranged. One of my favorite recent-ish pool things was where Earl was commentating on his...

do the pros outweigh the cons when using quality shaft wax?

My thoughts exactly. I've tried a glove several times, even back 20 years ago when they were not common at all. I just lose too much feeling in my bridge hand. Maybe I shouldn't be using my bridge hand to feel with but it works for me and I like how it feels. Skin to skin or it don't go in! 😁

    My Aiming System

If you hold it 1 1/8" from the edge of the cue ball, it's basically ghost ball center location. A lot of old ferrules were 1 1/8" for this reason. Or if you have a 1" ferrule and an 1/8" tip it's essentially the same thing. If you want to look a bit less silly you can do the same thing with...

    Supporting Veterans

Pat's an awesome guy, I didn't even know he served. Master skills at cue building and the most down to earth guy you can meet. I've always had good conversations with him.

Noob question, is my cutting bit dull?

I was working about 1.25" from the chuck since it was a 1" ferrule. It's a hand operated so I usually just have to kind of feel the feed rate. Micarta ferrule material. It seems really tough so I have no doubt it could dull pretty quickly. I'll work on sharpening it before next use. I was on...

Retaining Ability from Performance Enhancing Drugs

I normally don't recommend books, but this is an outstanding read. It's about drugs in Germany in the World Wars. Pretty insane stuff. They basically ran tanks to the Atlantic from Germany in a few days fueled with amphetamines, no sleep and a gas supply convoy. I highly recommend it, it's an...

Noob question, is my cutting bit dull?

I got a MidAmerican about a month ago. I’ve done quite a bit of work on the pool hall’s house cues and worked on some old shafts etc. I’m just taking it slow and trying to learn as I go. Anyway, this weekend I put a new ferrule on my old McDermott. It seemed as if the tip end of the ferrule...

It will if you put 17 high pressure sodium lights above it will... IDK, I remember high pressure sodium lights having an amber tint, TV lights then, whatever they were.

Retaining Ability from Performance Enhancing Drugs

I have no idea but after about 15 years of pretty severe depression that wouldn't go away I've been depression free for 20 years or so and counting. It's a bit like when your computer is bugging out in an endless loop and you do a restart. Then the computer works normally. It really didn't...

Retaining Ability from Performance Enhancing Drugs

The only substance I know of that can provide some kind of lasting effect like this would be psychedelics. I'm not saying they would make one a better pool player. But the "lessons" they teach can and often do last for decades. It's more likely about things like a sense of wonder, loving your...
