    Pool Fan in 2025!

Social media has been great for pool! It gets the information out there sooner and more accessibly and lets us follow our favorite players much more easily. I live in Wisconsin and recently there was a WPBA event in conjunction with a local tournament. I didn't even know about it until some...

    Pool and drink

I cannot drink and play well. About halfway through a pint my game starts to take a dip. Now this is a 7.2% ABV IPA so not a bud light, but still, just a half pint and I notice a difference. For league I either don’t drink or don’t drink until we’ve either won or lost for the night. At...

Anyone made a Pool Related Resolution for 2025

No resolutions really but I’ve been playing in a few more small tournaments recently and finally got an established Fargo, so my goal now is to keep up the tournament play and try to get my Fargo up 80-100 points. Don’t have a real good concept of how long that will take but that’s going to be...

    Carbon, back to wood...

No glove is even more rare than a traditional deflection shaft these days. I remember when I got back into playing around ‘09 and very few players were wearing gloves. Nobody in the league I joined did. I have sweaty hands though and always liked the idea of a glove so started wearing one...

    Carbon, back to wood...

I’d also be curious to hear of those who’ve gone back to wood is it low deflection wood or traditional? I made the switch from traditional to carbon low deflection last year and have definitely gotten used to the carbon and think I probably play a little better with it overall. But…I do miss...

What do you do ..when putting in the work doesnt work?

Oh, I know this feeling!! "I often feel like as a 490 500 Fargo that I'm underperforming the problem is that I'm capable of playing like a 300 and a 600 but the two make terrible Scotch doubles partners" I have the same problem. And it sucks because there are times when I'll be playing really...

    Question Panthera 8-1

As someone who has been keeping an eye out for for a couple prior gen Pantheras and tried hard to get my hands on the most recent 9-2 release (and sadly failed)….these Jacoby built cues tend to hold their value pretty well and can be hard to come by. I’ve seen some optimistic (IMO) sellers...

    Bob Runde Repair

My understanding is Bob takes on very little work these days and is mostly retired, building a few cues still as he wants to. I doubt he’d be looking to get into repairing an older Schon. I’d suggest contacting Schon or just a good cue maker, like garczar suggests.

    Southwest cue pin question

All recent satins are still made without logo or number on the pin too.

🔴 Metal in middle of Revo shaft --- real or not? 🟢

I have multiple Revos, most purchased this year, definitely has metal in them maybe 1/3 the way up from the joint or so. Fridge magnet works to find it in my experience, but magnet needs to be sufficiently strong.

Jump cue preference for sidearm jumping

Yes, I believe it needs longer than the typical 40" short jump cue. I just did a little at home practice of just getting the side arm movement and position correct (no table at home, just setting up using a small table the same height as a pool table and working on the motion and position)...

Jump cue preference for sidearm jumping

My goal is to learn this technique in the first part of next year. I started jumping with the dart stroke and if I have my Jacoby jump cue I'm quite adept at it for any sort of close jump, but aiming on longer jumps is a challenge. I've tried learning the traditional under arm jump stroke...

Rack It Up or Pack It Up?

Yeah, obviously no successful business is ever run out of California. /s  Seriously though....one hall closure in a place where they didn't own their building and that building was sold isn't really indicative of anything other than an unfortunate situation for that pool hall...

    Carbon Fiber Shaft Care...

I wipe my shafts with the microfiber predator provides with their Revo shafts before it goes into my case every single time, so yes, still pulls dirt off the shaft in my experience.

after 18years and 2 months my southwest order is NOW - recommendations on shaft taper?

Same here. I don't get the "I would never wait..." crowd. You don't have to change a single thing in your life, you send an email, you're on the list. When your name comes up if you want to buy a cue you can, if you don't they'll just move on to the next person. There is almost zero...

    Carbon Fiber Shaft Care...

Yes, definitely. Especially after playing on dirty cloth. Gets on your hand/glove and then the shaft. Playing at my usual room the cloth is reasonably clean and I can go weeks without feeling the need to use a wipe and when I do it'll often come off pretty close to clean. Played for a few...

after 18years and 2 months my southwest order is NOW - recommendations on shaft taper?

Keep in mind all it takes is an email to Laurie. You're not out any money to get on the list. It's not like we're sitting out here counting down the days or anything or have money tied up in waiting. Until my Satin came along I probably hadn't given the fact that I was on the SW list a...

after 18years and 2 months my southwest order is NOW - recommendations on shaft taper?

Also...18 years and 2 months....good to know where the list is at. I'm at 10 years almost exactly now. So looking at probably 8-10 more I'm guessing....assuming they're still building cues then, haha. Glad I was able to get my Satin when I did at least.

after 18years and 2 months my southwest order is NOW - recommendations on shaft taper?

My name came up last year for a Satin (still have a good few years to go for my regular order). There was no option on the satin so I assume it comes with just their standard taper. I have to say, I really like it and find it super comfortable and natural feeling. I was surprised, I thought...
