I’ve been shocked at the difference the tip makes in my jumping ability. I look like I know what I’m doing with a white diamond tip (as opposed to a cheap phenolic tip). It might be worth experimenting with different tips before moving to a different cue.

Some books say to aim at a spot on the pocket straight behind the ball as that’s an easier aiming spot than the apex of a curved cue ball.

Only to poke at you, but I would argue that Phalen’s The Game of Billiards was describing a form of pocket billiards. Not that anyone would have looked at it to learn about pool 80 years after it was written.

I’ve intentionally forced a couple CF shafts to their compression limits and the tip was never the failure mode (hollow shaft typically cracks first). I think something external tore the tip like maha said.

I think it's a bad sign (for us railbirds and the players too) that a compromise hasn't been reached yet. As noted by jbart above, this is a headache for everyone involved so there typically would be pressure to reach a middle-ground solution. What demand is the WPA making that Matchroom...

Greenleaf’s 126 and out (to win the 1929 World. Championship) took only 40 minutes! Which is about 188 balls per hour. Jason Shaw ran his 832 in 3 hours (277 balls per hour). I’m not comparing the two except to note that these exceptional bouts of concentration often coincide with fast play.
