I have shafts 10 to 14mm and agree with you that they all play fine (at least at my skill level. I have an ancient shaft from a 115 year old Brunswick one piece that I kept at 14mm and put a layered tip in it. I love how it feels whatever that means.

Thanks for this tip (pun intended). I always used really cheap utility blades and never even knew better ones existed. I purchased some bi-metal premium blades, that were still less than a dollar each, and they work 10x better and faster than the regular steel blades.

Yes and many of these pro tournaments coincide with the launch of the local league. The pitch for leagues is that the league nights are supposed to go faster.

Good question. I might join the local league and find out. I was surprised at the investment they are making but apparently they are successful in the U.K.

I think their business model is to use these events to promote their local leagues and supplement their U.K. content for that customer base. But the KC open was by far the best run tournament I’ve ever seen and I would happily pay to play in another.

The regular games (off the TV table) weren’t timed at the KC Open. It was a good lesson in patience for me to see Bergman and Styer and their slow play in person. I would play better if I could emulate their methodical approach.

I was reminded of your cartoon when I saw the report today that the players weren’t paid for the recent Maldives Open (a WPA sanctioned event, although they weren’t the promoter).

And kudos to the two young Americans (Easton and Mast) who played in the finals of the u19 women. They both played great and the final went hill hill.

I don’t disagree on those points Stu about the players. I think you wisely avoid social media, but Filler’s response to this situation was vastly different than Albin’s, which is why Filler is taking heat from many (like Mike P at Billiards Digest and other reasonable voices) and not Albin).

I respectfully disagree with you on this Stu. None of those other situations involve a player boycott that was broke at the last minute by one of the game’s top players. This is more like strike shortened baseball seasons. And this isn’t even getting into the ethics of the situation.

Yes, any victory here certainly will come with an asterisk next to it (like strike shortened seasons in baseball, etc).
