    Shot accuracy % rating system

Drills like Dr Dave’s Billiard University provide a score for a solo performance. There’s also Accu-stats scoring systems. The problem is that they can’t really be fairly compared across tables and conditions, whereas Fargoratings can because the two players are always playing on the same table.

My rant: Finals shouldn't be played at 1AM on a multi-day event

Yes, most of my local/regional tournaments are like this. And the finalists almost never actually play because they just want to go home. I assume it’s mostly just lack of planning: Too many players, not enough tables, races too long, not starting on time, etc. I like to play in round robin...

Is that Jeremy Jones’ signature on the check? Is it a different Jeremy Jones?

BAD CALLS in Pool ... FOULS that Weren't Called

He jumped it a little with the downward stroke, I wonder if it went forward because it was going up in the air.

BAD CALLS in Pool ... FOULS that Weren't Called

There’s this one where Shane used the bridge against Kaci at a Eurotour event. People said it looked like the cue ball hit the bridge. I don’t know how you can tell whether it was a foul or not. Time 40:30.

This spot shot bullshit has got to stop

FYI, this event does have a shot clock.

This spot shot bullshit has got to stop

That’s an issue with sets, not shootouts. In tennis you can win a match 1-6, 7-5, 7-5, even though you’ve won fewer games. But sets also increase the tension with their stopping points and resets. I think with these shootouts they wanted to increase tension for the spectators, and my...

SJM Analyzes Matchroom’s New Game Plan

I don’t know why they won’t play in this Predator series (6 events, $775,000 prize money) and I don’t really care. They have their stated reasons: they don’t like the “race to 4” (it’s actually two sets to 4), the shootout, whatever. All I know is that Europeans dominate Americans, both in...

SJM Analyzes Matchroom’s New Game Plan

I don’t know if there will be more US events on this tour, but it’s hard to care when the American players don’t even play in the existing tournaments. There’s currently a long list of top European players at the CSI Arizona tournament: Fedor, Albin, Kazakis, Alcaide, Mario He, Max Lechner...

    Big announcement from Matchroom today

I was just listening to that, and it sounds like they’re giving the events a lot of freedom in 2022, but they plan to have more strict requirements in the coming years, like pocket size, break rules, etc. Did you get that from what they said?

    Big announcement from Matchroom today

I think garczar is right to call it a tour announcement. There was only one new event announced, but what is a tour but an organized series of events. This creates some standardization across events, and rewards for getting up on the point list: entry to the invitational events, including the...

    Big announcement from Matchroom today

Emily was just on the Pool Player Podcast and said she reached out to Turning Stone and Zuglan was not interested, and to CSI/Predator and they want to keep going with Tenball®. She also said the NBL was interested, and she hoped that lots of US promoters would ask to be included in the list. Of...

    Mosconi Cup 2022

Shane, Sky, Justin, Oscar, and Josh seem like a good team to me, just out of the top 10 Fargo-rated US players. Josh has the same fargorating as Billy, and Billy seems to get in to all the Matchroom events until the recent troubles. Chris and Tyler aren't in the top 10 at all. Mike is retired...

Using The Rail For More Position Options

That position on a corner pocket shot where you have an angle going in to the rail is one of the most important in pool. It comes up a couple times in most every rack. Drills like the one below can help to ingrain the shot and the position. Make the balls in rotation, always getting one rail...

    Fargo Ratings and table size

If you agree that “the same players that are beating you on the big tables are beating you on the small tables,” then you agree with the analysis. So why are you agreeing with it and then saying it’s flawed?

    Fargo Ratings and table size

Makes sense. I’ve been chatting with people about this, and I think there’s one misunderstanding about fargoratings that contributes to the belief that table size should affect it. People think your fargorating is an absolute measure of ability rather than a rating relative to opponents. They...

    Thom Pyro chalk

I've been using the green Taom for a couple weeks after using the blue Taom before that. I haven't noticed much difference, but some people told me they think it makes them miscue less than the blue.

    Fargo Ratings and table size

I especially like the idea that the Fargorate difference between a strong and a weak player can be the same on 9' and 7' tables, but the weaker player is still going to want to play on the 7' table.

    JJ ball cleaning foul

It seemed pretty clear that he asked for it to be cleaned to get more time, so my guess is that it wasn’t dirty, or, at least, he probably would have asked for it to be cleaned even if it wasn’t dirty.

Mosconi Cup Day 4 (Final Day)

Right. Maybe the accu-stat TPA would be useful here, although I dont know if anyone tracks that.
