    Tip tool shaping question

I would use that tool with my hand, rather than lay it on the floor.

Thanks for the compliment. It's kind of like the old saying. How do I get to Carnegie Hall? Practice, practice...

Kamui Black Medium Tips Going Hard

Every tip, whether single layer, or multi-layer, hardens over play.

    Preferred tip hardness

Surprised you didn't mention how long she likes it to last.

Mosconi's tips were Champions, which would be considered soft by today's standards. Worked pretty well for him.

I use a knife to remove the old tip. I was only referring to no blades for the installation. To trim the sides I tape the ferrule, and work the edges down with sandpaper, with the shaft cradled inside a towel in a vise. Only light pressure, because I'm constantly turning the shaft as I sand...

Reported. Wilt said he had 20,000 women. Do the math. He had a 20 year career. That would be 1,000 women a year. Different women, not just the same. That's about 1000 women per year, more than 3 per day. No days off, not even Sundays. If Wilt did this to his shaft, it would be too worn...

I've been doing mine since 1977. It's videos like this that make me cringe. All the sandpaper and other abrasives he uses is going to make a bullet out of that ferrule after a few tips. Sadly, this is that way a lot of cue repair guys do it too. After putting on the tip, they sand the hell...

Thanks. I've only been doing it by hand for 45 years or so. It helps to have a lot of hobbies using your hands.

You can do a tip with no lathe if you're experienced and have a lot of patience. These are just some examples of mine. No lathe, no drill, no knives, razor blades, or swords.

Would suggest fine sandpaper and sanding sealer to work on the shaft, rather than zirconium teeth.

Get the redhead to put in Zirconium teeth for the front teeth. They're not cheap, but they will never wear out for shaping your tips.

Shape the tips yourself. It's not that hard. Tip shapers, files will work.

    History of Joint Protectors?

It was a different time, Doc. It would be hard to cultivate a relationship with a cue maker like I did with Tim. His personality helped, as he was genuinely nice, and liked company even when he was working. Many was a weekend when I'd drive to the shop, and if he was alone, I'd hand him stuff...

    History of Joint Protectors?

It was just a protector he did for me. I think it was kind of a little fun thing just to make sure no more cracked joints for me. It helped to visit the shop and get known. Tim definitely became brand conscious later when he went on his own. His emblem is legendary, and it often went on his...

    History of Joint Protectors?

Yes, Scruggs I say. He was Dan's partner in 1976 at Joss when he made this joint protector. Tim went on his own in 1978.
