    Cue ball ferrule

If you're going to make a ferrule out of a cue or other ball, make sure it's high quality. I've seen them cut in half with plenty of voids in them.

Is Championship cloth faster than simonis 860?

Assuming it was installed correctly, I would say yes. However, I have heard of, but not used, a Cloth called Gorina. Supposedly this cloth is used on both pool and carom tables, so I don't know if it is faster than Simonis 760 or not.

Is Championship cloth faster than simonis 860?

No, it's not. Simonis also makes a cloth for Carom tables. I believe it's called 360, but not sure. Faster than 760.

Is Championship cloth faster than simonis 860?

Coming into this a bit late, but my regular pool room normally installs Championship cloth on the tables, and I'm not sure what level or grade it may be. However, in my experience, it starts out slower than Simonis 860 because the Championship starts out with a bit of a rougher texture than the...

    Buying Unknown Cues- An Example

I like the look of curly maple. I'd buy it for only that reason, assuming it's sound. There are plenty of Joss cues out there with curly maple. This isn't one of them, but it's still a very decent look for the price.

    cue tip

I think you mean Triumph, right? Very decent tip, I've used a bunch of them. I've never had one separate from the pad, but I suppose it's possible. If the case, you can put whatever tip you want on that pad. By the way, it's not French, as the box says. It's made by Tweeten. At the time...

    cue tip

And to keep it Gus tip relevant, here's a picture of a couple shafts of mine that I put a LePro on a fiber base, top, and an original Crown tip with fiber base, below. I believe as the good Champion tips were getting scarce, Gus probably went to putting LePros on a fiber base. I have no doubt...

    cue tip

Yeah, I had one of those plastic box Champions. No good whatsoever, not the original Champions. I have a feeling more than one company was trying to recreate what was largely not available by the early 80s.

Sales tax on a custom cue?

With the exception of a few states, income tax is also state, in addition to federal. I've always paid just a certain amount for a cue, and I think the maker just calculated his federal, state, and sales tax himself.

    cue tip

Not to doubt you, as you are no stranger to the intricacies of cue history. However, all the boxes of early Champion cue tips I have say "Better Billiards," not Brenner and Brocqut. The later Chandivert boxes also do not say Brenner and Brocqut. Here's a picture of the early Champion boxes...

    cue tip

The BB was Better Billiards, likely nothing to do with the later Chadivert.

    cue tip

I could be wrong, but I don't think the Champion and Crown tips of the 60s and 70s were made by the same outfit Chandivert later on. The quality of the Chandivert tips was nowhere as good as the older Champions and Crowns. I read somewhere that a French guy made the older ones by tanning them...

When Did Simonis Become The #1 Tournament Choice?

    Any help identifying this cue

It's true in every sport, Doc, pool included. I've seen slugs that go at it for years and don't get one iota better in decades. And I've seen examples like Mike Sigel with natural talent that get to be the best in the world in his 20's. What it comes down to is that all men are not created...

Yep. The darkest black car I've ever owned actually had some blue flecks to it. Darker than the typical pearl black on some of my other cars. I've never spilled bleach on a black shirt, but I understand the orange. I have now and then spilled a bit of bleach on my dark blue bathroom mat...

Maybe you have too skinny thumbs. Really cover up the middle section. Do it with black cloth if you have to. You'll see it's the same color, top to bottom.

Yep, agree. I've seen Magenta many times and was not necessarily aware of whether it's real or not. Images of purple are hotly debated, it seems. I've had what I consider purple shirts before. There had to be some mixtures in the dyes to get them done. Visual impression is a very...

    Any help identifying this cue

I believe a bit light for our conception of purple, but if cyan and black are added, I believe that gets closer to purple, or at least what we think it is.

Maybe too many drugs. Put your entire thumb over the middle section. They are the same color.
