the pro's have pretty much evolved beyond the jump shot as it is..at this point if you left a jump shot then you didn't get safe. I think a more elegant solution would be "One cue per player per match" use whatever you want...

Some of us prefer slippery ... I know I do.. I can play just as well with either.. but the linen is more comfortable to me

The variation I play you have to match colors 1-9, 2-10, 3-11 etc...the 8 acts as a transitional ball you can play it anytime for shape and it always spots back up..

Loosen your grip for max spin. let the CUE slide a couple inches through your hand when you stroke... Gripping tight when hitting hard is probably the most common problem in pool.

If you have dark colored cloth( green) .then use light colored chalk ( masters green) set up a shot with hole reinforcers so that you put the cue ball and object ball back in the same place every time... chalk heavily before each attempt and keep shooting the ball in 15-20 times with similar...
