Why Pool Leagues Should Embrace “ALL BALL FOULS”

Yes, the USGA and R&A absolutely do decide what officially constitutes the game referred to as golf. No other entities have that legal and world wide recognized authority to define, change or alter the rules. That applies to both the legal and technical aspects of the game of golf that is...

Why Pool Leagues Should Embrace “ALL BALL FOULS”

There is nothing wrong with enjoying any activity for casual entertainment and agreeing on what’s allowed and not allowed in any competitively played game or sports activity. Heck, playing basketball in the playgrounds in NYC, there isn’t any referee or playing by NBA or NCAA rules. It was...

Why Pool Leagues Should Embrace “ALL BALL FOULS”

No, don’t tell him that but do remind him he is cheating on his scores. So when he claims he shot 90, remind him to admit he didn’t play by the rules so he really cheated but seems hesitant to acknowledge that. Golf is meant to be played by the rules. Otherwise don’t keep scores because it’s...

Why Pool Leagues Should Embrace “ALL BALL FOULS”

The point is the R&A and USGA has never written a rule to have more fun playing golf. That is what you wrote. I didn’t make it up. These are your words you apparently believe. The rules of golf have never been rewritten to make the game more fun. Fairness yes and when you refer to strictness...

Why Pool Leagues Should Embrace “ALL BALL FOULS”

The R&A and USGA decide what the rules of golf are. Making the game more fun is not part of their mission statement. Local rules can be used for that notion. The pros and amateurs abide by the same rules. No where in the rules of golf is the term fun used or applied. Golf is a game of physical...

Why Pool Leagues Should Embrace “ALL BALL FOULS”

Or maybe they realized that when you play the British Open, the oldest, most prestigious tournament, wind can be an enormous factor. Golf balls can be blown off a golf tee whether it was placed on a mound of sand or a modern day tee. It was never intended to make the game of golf easier, just...

Why Pool Leagues Should Embrace “ALL BALL FOULS”

The rules also specify if you grounded your club and the ball moves for any reason, it is a penalty even when you did not move or swing your club after grounding the head of the club behind the ball, albeit still motionless and merely touching the turf. The only exemption is on the putting green...

Why Pool Leagues Should Embrace “ALL BALL FOULS”

Dr. Dave, I learned about pool in 1961 and endeavored to put object balls in the designated pocket on 9’ and 10’ tables. I never saw any 7’ pool tables in the pool halls in NYC but you could find 7’ tables in bars with quarter slots or maybe in a youth center. So I learned about pool basically...

    ALERTS ON MEMBERS

The only thing I know of is doing a member search by name and it should bring up that person’s posts, at least the most recent ones. Write a PM to one of the mods on duty or try Cleiton Rocha but any mod on duty can likely check with the House Pro. Your post is a little unclear so be prepared to...

The best butt for under $2000

I mentioned butt weight because I am not a fan of using any weight bolt weighing more than 7 grams. (1/4 oz.) Anything more and the cue maker missed the mark building your cue. If a 1/2 oz. addt’l butt weight was needed, then it should be cored to accept 2 headless 1/4 oz. bolts that can be...

How to stop wood shaft warping.

Maybe I’m just lucky but I don’t think I have been. Instead, I just bought cues that were well made because I have never had a cue shaft or cue butt I’ve owned, or presently have, warp. My Palmer cue is almost 60 years old and still straight as a taut string. My Runde Schon was completed in...

The best butt for under $2000

You ask what is the best pool cue butt to get? Your inquiry suggests you play with a carbon fiber shaft so all you require is a cue butt to complete the package. However, have you figured out what you like in pool cue anatomy? I mention it because you need to know the weight of the butt you...

    Better than Phenolic

I am using extra hard…… it sure seems like it is too.

    Better than Phenolic

I am using the Kamui Sai -Control break tip on my McDermott Stinger cue that I’ve used for decades. Much to my surprise and amazement, the tip either rejuvenated my cue or else my break because it seems to hit the rack more powerfully based on the sound of my break and scatter of the pool balls.

    New Olhausen tournament model..................

I watched the matches today and the tables look great because of the rails. Saw some really good 8 ball matches and women players with Fargo ratings of high 600 to low 700’s play shots and miss just like I would. Amazing how getting out of shape by just an inch completely changes the runout map...

Have you ever visited a pool hall with really good house cues?

Back in the late 60’s, there were house cues still in pretty good condition. I remember because when you found a cue you really liked, you’d try storing it in some obscure location in the pool hall always hoping that no one would find it.

    Predator Sneaky Pete Question

I’d order a Schmelke sneaky Pete with a Kielwood shaft that renders the cue not exactly a SP due to the contrast in wood. Schmelke will work with you contouring the butt diameter, weight, pin type and of course, the shaft would be built to your specs. If you ordered Cocobolo wood for the butt...

    Paul Newman, the Mensch

It never ceases to surprise and still amaze me that prominent public figures, like actors, athletes in a variety of sports, and even philanthropic billionaires can be recognized for their accomplishments in their fields of endeavor to only subsequently learn about their passion for helping...

    GB9 Ball Tour Tight pockets

This is what 4 1/4” CP look like and that what I play on 80% of the time. The other 20% is 4 1/2” CP on 7’ & 9’ tables. IMO, the pockets think the CP look like 4 1/8” but without placing the OBs side by side it is hard to distinguish size.

Up and coming cue makers to invest in???

Do not think of pool cues an investment opportunity. That is a foolhardy, naive approach to investing. There are just too many variables that interfere and undermine any reliable predictions or any forecast. I have tens of thousands of dollars spent, not invested, for my limited collection of...
