Starting again after 20 years - where to start, please?

agreed, and why I used the 700 threshold. We'll have to disagree on their self awareness. I have yet to run into a >700 player who wasn't dialed in on their own fundamentals. You don't get to that number with simply firing from the hip. Those tutorial YT vids aren't generally from players of...

    Does it Make Any Sense?

You're subscribing to Patrick's line of thinking. Which isn't necessarily wrong, or right, but is relatively narrow minded. No magic pill. No warping of reality and/or geometry. Just hacks for human nature. I won't recant here. Already discussed in the shaft flexibility thread.

Starting again after 20 years - where to start, please?

Instructor 100%... IF I had to start from scratch (and it sounds like you're on the ground floor: Draw shot comment) knowing what I know now. I definitely would get instruction. Maybe not necessarily from an instructional pro, but at the very least set something regular up with a >700 player...

Why are Predator cue extensions so damned expensive?

I play with wood, have an extension, have never taken the finish off my shafts beyond what is normal for cue work, and don't wear a glove. Works perfectly fine. I do make extremely minor effort to keep my cue clean. Maybe that's the difference...?

    Tip tool shaping question

This makes me laugh... My main player was a Z2 shaft with a rock hard tip. Others would cringe every time I struck a ball with pace and ask what was wrong with my cue. It's worth the comic relief alone.

    Tip tool shaping question

play >20hrs a week and a good quality hard tip can last you 10yrs. I used the 10yr benchmark, because I hit that threshold personally. Everything is relative. That said, I'm no different when it comes to fiddling with my cue tip. I won't touch it for months normally, but will hit it with a...

    Tip tool shaping question

Oh I don't... Prior conversations on AZB about the tips disappearing from chalk use. Funny comment likely only in my mind. To be on topic. I honestly never shape tips. Use hard tips and they might get touched up once by my cue guy during a shaft cleaning. Just a pick if I find the surface...

    Tip tool shaping question

You guys need to 'shape' your tips...? Seems weird considering the chalk does it every time you use it. :ROFLMAO:

    Understanding Cue Shaft Flexibility

It is a shame you wasted so much time not focusing on the actual topic. We could have potentially built this conversation into an epiphany for you. My argument has remained on point throughout. You're swinging at a horse named CJ that's half buried in your own backyard and I don't even know...

    Understanding Cue Shaft Flexibility

Not arguing that. However yet again you're introducing an element into the equation that isn't apart of the actual discussion. Aim with squirt is still just aim. That said, you're getting ahead of yourself. We've just come to common ground on erring with English provides 2 outcomes rather...

    Understanding Cue Shaft Flexibility

No, I claim that erring to outside english increases my odds of placing a known directional english on the CB. By extension that also increases the odds of inducing throw on the OB which helps correct for my tendency to hit blind cuts thick. Doesn't make the pocket bigger. Just helps correct...

    Understanding Cue Shaft Flexibility

If you could cite the post wherein I claimed a geometric falsehood, I will quickly omit the offending comments and add include edit notes as to not discredit your post. Should I hold my breath...?...lol I have been discussing what I consider a benefit of erring toward a side of the CB. ...and...

    Understanding Cue Shaft Flexibility

When I use the term 'erring' in the context you quoted. It's in reference to a known deviation (in direction) from CB center line. In context: Rather than aim for center line tip placement. I err toward outside english on cuts to blind pockets. By "blind pocket" I mean a pocket in which...

    Understanding Cue Shaft Flexibility

The former is methodology of purposely striking the CB to one side of the center line to avoid unwanted opposite english. The latter (within the scope you've been parroting) is how aim can potentially suffer from a random +/- of desired target.

    Understanding Cue Shaft Flexibility

That's the best part... I'm not disagreeing with him. At least not on the topic he keeps fixating on...lol I think Patrick is under the notion that he can emulate a robot's performance during play. Hard truth is we aren't such machines. Fortunately there are hacks to improve success despite...

    Understanding Cue Shaft Flexibility

Definitely, but you're still ignoring the actual conversation. Which is the benefit of erring to application of known spin, rather than a random occurrence of either. Where talking about the concept of erring with english. Not how aiming works. Once you comes to terms with that, then you can...

    Understanding Cue Shaft Flexibility

Do you choose to hit all pure stop shots center ball with enough force to skid the CB to the OB, or cue below center and hit it softer to time the kill..? Blanket statements are foolish. Wrong... List goes like this: -On target (aimed shot, center CB) -Left of target (result of intented...

    Open vs Close Bridge

Well Dave gave you your answer. So about that trail blazing..... Maybe if we had a 3C expert on the forum they could tell us why they think the closed bridge is primarily used in that game.
