"A Brief History of the Game of Billiards" -- fascinating & entertaining article

What is interesting to me about pool history is just how long pool has been struggling to find the right game for competition. There has been pockets of stability at times but compared to something like Carom and Snooker, Pool has been pretty chaotic. 3 cushion was firmly established by the...

    Drills Drills Drills

Quick note, I don’t think precise set ups really matter for most drills. As long as the right balls pass into the right pockets it should be fine. You should be able to adjust your position play if the ball is half an inch from its intended spot.

    Fiddlesticks Still an interesting idea.

    WCBS Multi-discipline World Championships, 2023

I’m glad they are doing this. It’s a good cross promotional idea. Unfortunately I doubt we will get any top snooker players since it seems they are in partnership with the IBSF. It’s too bad because I would have have been very intrigued to see Mark Selby try to play 3 cushion, assuming this...

    Practice - Drills...NOPE!

The majority of pro snooker players do some sort of drill. Whenever the broadcast goes into the practice room almost every player is doing some drill. And when I attended the U21 championship almost a decade ago, all of the juniors I saw were doing some manner of routine when practicing or...

How to improve with only 30 minutes a day?

I’d choose two drills and spend 15 minutes on each. Do one that is focused on fundamentals and one that is focused on position. Switch them up to keep them interesting and make sure you aren’t doing drill you can complete a high percentage of the time.

Trans debate arrives into Pro woman’s Billiards

Let’s keep in mind here that this players success has less to do with any potential advantages of their birth and much more to do with the state of the womens pro snooker tour. Womens snooker doesn’t have the depth and competitiveness of womens pool. While Reanne Evans and a few others are...

    Pocket size

I’d say a quarter inch small than what you compete on. Or probably no smaller than 4.25”.

Jayson Shaw in the Hunt for Another 14.1 Record

Gotta add Shaw to that list now. Some of those racks look like the balls were placed by hand.

Why is Facebook used for live video from matchroom events?

I’m just making it clear that it’s not because my hardware isn’t supported anymore

Why is Facebook used for live video from matchroom events?

That app seems to have been discontinued. I can’t access it on either my new tv or new Apple TV. Casting to the tv is finnicky and a pain.

    Matchroom Asian 9 ball open

They don’t own the rights to all of the events. The ones that they do own, they have tv contracts. Outside of SkySports, they would want the tournaments on DAZN because it’s not specially a pool streaming service. In an ideal world, someone who signed up to watch Soccer/Football will happen...

He asked for help,I tried but.........................

The tricky part is determining at what point in your development you need to start waiting for better break out opportunities. Even when you do have better shotmaking and control, taking a risk is still appetizing. Especially when you are approaching a high run.

Doesn’t matter. The only way I beat Alex is if he forgets to show up.

Matchroom Sport in Talks to Sell Minority Stake Worth $215M

My thoughts too. It could go either way depending on your perspective. Maybe I’m just an optimist but one thing they would be looking for is growth opportunities. Matchroom has a history of growing niche games (ex. Darts) and pool has similar potential given the viewing numbers on YouTube and...

Is there such a thing as natural talent? Some say yes, I do not think there is?

I came across this and thought it was relevant, https://irisreading.com/why-children-learn-faster-than-adults-and-how-you-can-learn-their-tricks/#:~:text=Generally%2C%20kids%20can%20learn%20a,is%20not%20only%20for%20kids. The gist is that kids have developing brains and more brain plasticity...

Is there such a thing as natural talent? Some say yes, I do not think there is?

I know you aren’t asking me but, there are plenty of people who work very hard, but at the wrong things. Effort is one thing but it needs to be directed properly otherwise you will be spinning your wheels on a plateau. One example is someone who does drills every day but never drills that...

Why we can't have nice things

I agree for the most part, but I think sponsors are looking at products that align with the values of their consumers as well as their own. Admittedly this is out of my wheelhouse but most sponsors (especially those targeting the 18-34 demo) probably recognize that their consumers are not too...

Matchroom changing break rules for European Open (Aug 9-14 Germany)

I consider myself primarily a snooker player but I would not be in favour of such a change. You would start to lose pools identity if players started turning down balls just because they are on the cushion and they aren’t straight in enough. The objective here should be to keep the players...
