    “I beat myself…”

I always cringed a bit when someone would say “I’d rather miss the shot than miss position”, after they missed wildly but had the cue ball end up where they wanted. I mean sure, your position was excellent if you were indeed trying a 4 railer into the side pocket, but if the ball actually went...

    Men vs Women

Do you think if Allison Fisher made the transition to pool a bit earlier it may have changed Jean’a mind? Maybe a new challenge? Or perhaps not because she probably could have jumped back in at any time during Fishers early years.

When Are You Playing Your Best Pool?

I think it’s when I have a mixture of a quiet mind that can focus on what’s in front of me, a lack of tension in the body and a bit of luck. As I’ve thought about it, I think one of the biggest differences between good days and great days is that the layouts favour your skill set and the shots...

    Men vs Women

I agree, you can only beat the competition you have in front of you.

    Men vs Women

Do you base your ranking on accomplishments or overall skill level? I don’t think any other women played to an 800 standard.

    Men vs Women

I’ve read that the APA starts women as a 2 and men as a 3. If that is true, you’d want to control for that since it’s based on assumptions.

    My Fargorate progression

Interesting stuff here! I’ve only skimmed the thread so apologies if this has been covered or I’m misunderstanding. But it seems like most of your games are coming from being tournaments you travel to. I’ve often wondered what sort of impact “road scores” would have on a Fargo rating compared...

    Good for the real HER…..

While this issue has concerned me when it comes to the recent controversy over the womens canadian weight lifting division, I’m less worried about womens divisions in cuesports. We’ve seen this pop up mostly in womens English 8 Ball and Snooker where it’s likely driven by the fact that the...

what's your 9 ball B@R % on your practice table?

It would have to be with break restrictions. If they are using a template, one on the spot and a side rail break they should be able to get position on the one on a home table often enough to get out at least 1 in 10 on a bad day. And then also the fact that you don’t even have to be cheating...

what's your 9 ball B@R % on your practice table?

If we are talking about a home table with templates and no break restrictions, I don’t think 10% is too shocking if they are above 600. Though it’s easy sometimes to ignore all of the bad days when you don’t get any BnRs which would bring down your actual average. It would be a different story...

what's your 9 ball B@R % on your practice table?

I’m not good enough to be competitive without bih, but I’ve been doing a similar concept where I either play it as it lays after the break or I play safe and get bih only if i get the snooker. If I don’t get the snooker, it’s game over. It’s a nice simple way to incorporate safety play without...

    Stu/Front Page

I think we need a billiards digest interview with our very own SJM.

    Gerry Watson RIP

Gerry was one of my first introductions to pool since he was heavily involved in touring colleges and universities doing his trick shot shows. Even my wife knows who he is because she said he had her do one of those audience participation shots. Gerry probably was responsible for a lot of...

    Pool Player Podcast............... WPA

Not all of them have two votes I don’t think or at least that’s what I remember from the podcast. I think EU has 2, Asia should have 2 but the ACBS only has 1 due to being on a probationary period. I don’t know who else has 1 vs. 2

    Pool Player Podcast............... WPA

Matchroom started as basically Barry Hearn managing Steve Davis, and I think the name was from Barry’s snooker club in 70s. The matchroom stable expanded in the 80s to include Davis, Thorburn, Taylor, Tony Meo and I think Jimmy White. There might have been a few others that I’m missing. In...

    Pool Player Podcast............... WPA

If they start getting million dollar prize funds, or even 750,000 prize funds for their big production events, yes. I think they’d want those players at their tournaments, but it’s really early doors in terms of broadening the awareness of professional pool. There aren’t any real stars at this...

    Pool Player Podcast............... WPA

Matchrooms perpsective would be “We grew Darts and Snooker by doing X, Y and Z. We want to do that for pool, but we can’t do Z within WPAs structure” or “The WPA structure negatively influences our ability to do Z effectively”. So they would see it in the best interests of the players because...

    Pool Player Podcast............... WPA

This is where I’d like to see matchroom finally get on a podcast and chat about this issue. I’m fairly certain though that they don’t want to get boxed into the WPAs structure and strategy. They want to do what they think they need to do to grow this tour without convincing someone else to...

    Pool Player Podcast............... WPA

My initial reactions are, 1. Kudos to Ishaun for coming on and opening himself to scrutiny 2. It’s time for Emily to speak openly on the issue, they can’t let the WPA own the narrative, no matter how well or poorly they do it. 3. This concept of “owning” sounds too squishy and a bit of an...

    Pool Player Podcast............... WPA

i think that’s all he really can do at this point. I haven’t watched it yet but I’d be surprised if he wasn’t more careful after the WPA had to walk back his comments immediately after the last podcast he was on. The ended doing exactly what he said they would, but I’m sure there weren’t...
