    2023 American 14.1 Championship

Thinking outside the box, maybe the best timing for this would be directly after the international open? You are still taking advantage of players being already in the country, but you side step the issue that players may prefer to warm up for a 9 ball tournament with a 9 ball tournament.

Now Trouble in the Snooker World

If I remember correctly, the full video hasn’t been released publicly. What we have seen is the edited video to make John look as badly as possible.

    Grand Slam of Pool?

For me it’s the US Open 9 ball, World 9 ball and World Pool Masters. Everything else is too new. I do like the DCC MoT but I find it’s too North America focused since nowhere else plays Banks or One Pocket as consistently. Maybe the World 10 ball could be slotted in if it sticks around for 5...

Predator WPA World 8 Ball Championship 2023 (17-22 Oct 2023), Austria, Winner $75K

You’ve already probably had enough perspectives on this but, I’ve always felt like Chinese 8 ball was a poor man’s snooker. I know some people will vehemently disagree but it lacks the creativity in shotmaking/position play and safety play of American pool while also foregoing the challenge and...

Predator WPA World 8 Ball Championship 2023 (17-22 Oct 2023), Austria, Winner $75K

I hadn’t even thought about enforceability. The top players will be easy enough to spot for the most part, but beyond that someone is going to need to spend a lot of time combing through players lists lol.

Predator WPA World 8 Ball Championship 2023 (17-22 Oct 2023), Austria, Winner $75K

Local tourneys are fine as long as they don’t qualify for WPA sanctioning (over 25k added I think). The biggest risk for Canadians would likely be whether we would be barred from the Canadian Championships for competing in a matchroom event.

    Emily's response???

Are these the clauses from matchroom that are of concern? 12.0 Other Events 12.1 By signing this Agreement, the Player confirms that they will not participate in another 9-ball ‘UK Open Championship’ pool event during the fourteen months from signature of this Agreement without the prior...

SJM – My Thoughts on WPA’s Actions

Agree, I think the worst possible outcome (and maybe most likely if matchroom meets its long term goals) is that the WPA and its affiliates are relegated to overseeing the amateur/grass roots game. Sort of like the IBSF and snooker where they don’t call their events “amateur” events but that’s...

    Emily's response???

Every tour and association I can think of has similar language. But what matters is how and when it is applied. The WPA are not promoters and cannot guarantee the players any amount of opportunities. They also don’t have an existing partnership with a tour or organization that offers...

SJM – My Thoughts on WPA’s Actions

Predator can have a big impact here and force WPA to reconsider. If Predator chooses not to sanction, what is the WPA going to do? Mandate everyone play Chinese 8 Ball? I have to imagine that as much as Predator wants their tours and tournaments to be successful, they likely also want to...

SJM – My Thoughts on WPA’s Actions

I think the benefit to the federations is that the WNT provides broader exposure which, generates increased interest in the game and filters back to the federations in the form of more players, exposure and eventually probably more money. Professional sport is as much an advertisement for the...

SJM – My Thoughts on WPA’s Actions

I think Matchroom is willing to push the boat out a bit with pool because they have the potential to own the professional tour outright. So if they are successful, I don’t think they need to even reach the same heights as snooker to reap similar profits where they only own 51%. The big...

    WPA bans......................

This is where I wish one of those player associations actually stuck around. This is exactly the type of thing you need them for. In a perfect world the players and major sponsors should boycott the WPA. The WPA banned Fedor last year, the ACBS banned Singapore players this year and the WPA...

    WPA bans......................

Possibly, but I expect matchroom has better lawyers than Charlie did. I wonder what specifically the WPA owns. If it’s just the world “insert game” championships, then matchroom has some wiggle room.

    WPA bans......................

I have to wonder if the WPA has considered that all of the supposed tournaments they have on the horizon for next year is a residual effect of the efforts put in by matchroom and CSI/Predator. CSI/Predator have pulled back a bit it seems and if matchroom were to go away or scales back, then the...

My thought on tourney tour and tight pockets

It was a 4 pack if I remember correctly. He had period of 10-15 racks where he just froze Corey out by only letting him see a kick. These packages tend to get exaggerated because the commentators sleep the first couple racks and say “what is he on now? A 14 pack?” And they say it in such a...

My thought on tourney tour and tight pockets

Cavernous! You’d need guard rails to safely navigate around that table.

My thought on tourney tour and tight pockets

I say 4” pockets for most events and 2.2” for majors. Make them hop over the points to pot the balls.

SJM Final Thoughts on the 2023 US Open

I would hold off on making final judgments on the pockets. It took several years of the big foot challenge before the players finally hit their stride on that table. In the early days commentators were saying that .800 was close to world class, but now I think they are often in .900s. Even...
