    Players Attempting to Unionize?

Lots of sports have a players association, though I understand that is different from a union. That said, I hope the players don’t overplay their hand and jeopardize some of the promising opportunities they have in front of them.

How much longer must we endure this insane format CSI is pushing

Pool is a bit more complicated than that. One day she walks in, it’s 9 ball and someone slops a ball and keeps shooting. The next time in 10 ball they don’t get to keep shooting. Another day the opponent has the option to pass it back. But then in a 9 ball tournament, someone breaks and...

    Safety play options

Danny D has been calling for this safety to played on 14.1 matches for over a decade. He always says it’s as good as a breakshot.

    Shaw 714 DVD

Here is one of Earl's videos, I don't know what they are using, maybe the table was tapped. But there is no rack being used at any time that I could see.

All participants used the permarack. Everyone was getting wide-open spreads.

    Trump

Ronnie has used different cues. I think he famously gave his cue away after a loss., Neil Robertson has switched things up in the past. John Higgins switched things up as recently as 2019 and is claiming to be playing the best snooker of his life. I did a quick check and Judd Trump switched...

    Trump

I think the whole thing about snooker players not being able to return to their prior standard after losing a cue was simply a superstition and a self-fulfilling prophecy. In recent years, it’s not uncommon for top players to switch cues and not miss a step.

    Shaw 714 DVD

I would be surprised if a digital download or another option isn’t available at some point. Either, he sells out the 714 copies, or, he doesn’t sell out. In the first instances it would be evident that he is leaving money on the table by not meeting the demand. In the second instance, it...

Practice table size 9’ or 10’

I agree, I think practicing on a tight 9 foot table will make club tables feel familiar but easier. Moving from a 10 foot to a 9 foot will certainly feel easier, but the game is different enough at the larger size to require an adjustment. Adjusting from a 4.25" pocket to a 4.75" pocket...

Predator brings back World 8 Ball Championship (14-20 Nov2022)

From a marketing standpoint I think it introduces some challenges. Having dual tours basically means that it hampers each other’s ability to grow in so far as they either need to work around each other or compete directly with one another. For example, Matchroom would not be able to introduce...

Is there another option? I don’t really care about the extra stuff, I just want to see the run.

    WPA license

No the requirement was that they couldn’t play in a US Open 9 ball like tournament. But no one knew what that meant. My best guess is that if someone decided to promote a rival US Open 9 ball tournament, you wouldn’t be allowed to play.

2022 World Pool Champion To Take Home Record $60,000

What is surprising is they were the promoter for that 2006 & 2007 event. The increase in prize money is great news but it is only approaching the $75,000 Alex won in 2004 (which they also promoted).

Matchroom Premier League Pool (PLP) (14-21 Feb2022), nineball, 9ft, Winner $20K

I like the way they use table 2 to mix things up. For example, switching over to the other table if something significant is happening or during the racking. They do a pretty good job of reducing downtime.

Matchroom Premier League Pool (PLP) (14-21 Feb2022), nineball, 9ft, Winner $20K

The super tight pockets have also added this “anything can happen” feel to it. We’ve had a few missed 8s and 9s. And they weren’t long 90 degree cuts either. It’s good for the game when run outs aren’t an afterthought and much more exciting.

Matchroom Premier League Pool (PLP) (14-21 Feb2022), nineball, 9ft, Winner $20K

It’s a young tour and the rankings are not well established. They are effectively working with a one year ranking list based on an incomplete calendar of events. I think as the top asians come back into the fold and they get a full two year ranking based on a complete calendar you will see...

Statement from The Legends of Pocket Billiards

I agree with a lot of what you say here. I don’t think any of these runs are in the same category as Mosconi’s run or the other exhibition runs of yesteryear. The extended runs during the American 14.1 championships in 2021 are the closest parallel. That said, I disagree with the suggestion...

Matchroom Premier League Pool (PLP) (14-21 Feb2022), nineball, 9ft, Winner $20K

One recommendation I’d give the producers is to include in the graphic the win loss record and their current position on the table at all times. It helps the casual viewer understand the stakes of the match (if any). Especially if they are like me, dropping in and out during the day. Their...

Article: What we need is a posh billiards parlour.

What is the billiards and bowling institute of America? Where are they getting their numbers and how old is the data? And it’s great that popularity amongst people with an income of 80k+ has increased, but how many of them reside in that town? I remember that participation peaked in the mid...
