Matchroom 2024 UK Open Nineball (7-12 May2024), Prize Fund $200K

At every one of these events there are a handful of players that consistently take 1-3 minutes on 80% of their shots. Everyone knows who they are, but they still put them on the TV tables. I don't understand the thought process behind it when you are trying to sell the public on an "exciting sport".

Matchroom 2024 UK Open Nineball (7-12 May2024), Prize Fund $200K

There would not be very many pool players left to play.

Matchroom 2024 UK Open Nineball (7-12 May2024), Prize Fund $200K

I love what Matchroom are doing, but their TV match selection is at times very questionable. Some players should be nowhere near the TV table in the rounds without a shot clock. Simply unwatchable.

Fedor Gorst nominated for Mosconi CUP Team USA!

Asia has an (mostly) amateur city cup event every year, that has Bangkok, Singapore, Ho Chi Min, etc taking part in.

    Jayson Shaw on Team USA!

Thankfully it is a hoax. European national team sports are a huge thing and it is a huge honour to represent your country, so it would be almost unthinkable for a proud Scotsman to switch allegiances, whichever country he lives in. As an aside the Mosconi is the only pool event that anyone...

US Open 9-Ball, 2023, Atlantic City, Sep 25-30

I love what Matchroom are doing for pool, but I don't understand why they put insanely slow players on the TV table, when there is no shot clock? It is unwatchable seeing players taking close to two minutes per shot, multiple times a rack.

    US Open Brackets are up.

Thanks Stu and oops apologies to Lukas. I have played him before and he is a respectful and talented player.

    US Open Brackets are up.

As a viewer it certainly makes for some tasty first round encounters. Seedings wise, I personally prefer the tennis method of taking into account known ability, however I certainly understand Matchroom's stand point. Either way, I am pretty excited for the US Open to start. :)

    US Open Brackets are up.

Because of some interesting seeing decisions there are a few monster first round draws. The one that jumps out at me is Tim De Ruyter (746 fargo) vs Kim Laaksonen (783 fargo). Pretty rough to be seeded and draw a 783! Especially when there are a number of sub 700 fargo players who have been...

Turning Stone Classic XXXVII Aug31- Sept. 4th

There is a very good reason that your malware blocker screams at you. All of those Facebook spam posts that link to "free streams", are set up to infect your devices. Click on them at your peril! They are not doing/announcing the draw until 2pm ET and the streams will be free once the event...

Congratulations to the team! That is a great achievement.

    Professional level according to Fargo

I am pretty sure that there would be far more 830+ players. You would get the likes of Jordan Shepherd and Gareth Potts giving 9 ball a serious try, they are both absurdly talented. Not that anyone would come in and immediately be top tier, but the super talented cueist's from other games...

    Professional level according to Fargo

It is healthy to have opinions evolve with additional information and experience. I think that is a pretty balanced view, I think that 625 may be a little on the low side, but I find it tough to gage the level for women. I can only see the bar for men and women rising, with all of the great...

    Professional level according to Fargo

Great post. I think you are spot on. 725 seems to be a reasonable level to be considered as playing at least a regional pro level. 775 at a level where you are competitive enough to have aspirations of consistently making somewhat of a living from playing pro level tournaments and sponsorship...

    Professional level according to Fargo

That makes sense. There are certainly a number of bang average players who consider themselves pro, but as you say in some cases it is their main source of income, so by definition could correctly call themselves a pro. I would say that certain areas of the US, have more of those "pro's" who...

    Professional level according to Fargo

Very true. I know the question has been done to death, i am just curious. Disclaimer, I am nowhere near pro level by anyone’s standards, closer to donkey level.

    Professional level according to Fargo

The great debate around calling yourself a “pro”, is far less subjective now that Fargo is in place. I am interested in hearing was Fargo level people think players should be at in order to legitimately call themselves a professional pool player. i personally would guess 730+ for men and 660+...

Women's 14.1 High Run Competition for Cancer Awareness

That's a fair point, I shouldn't have commented on her actual ability. I personally think the event would have more credence if it wasn't marketed as a player trying to beat a true American pool legend's high run, but that is just me.

Women's 14.1 High Run Competition for Cancer Awareness

I know her game very well and she is not capable of breaking 50. I would be flabbergasted if she did.

    Snooker cues

It may also be that the regular butt of the cue can then be changed for a longer butt, which is effectively an extension. If the 50/50 cues had the longer butt you would need a longer case.
