    My first tip install

Haven't posted in a while. Partly busy during the holidays. Been playing with some different designs, trying to find my groove. The conversions just need the top-coat and the matching shafts are progressing as well. These two from the last post are nearly done. Just need the final sanding...

    Lord help me

I looked at those a while ago too. Went with the regular tail stock. I did get tired of measuring the offset with the calipers so I added a dial indicator. Much easier now.

Does everything need to be cored?

Not looking for a short cut, I have no problem coring everything. I'm just trying to figure out how to not ruin a cue by trying not to waste time and at the same time not wasting time on unnecessary procedures. if that makes sense. That surprises me. I picked maple since it is used so much...

Does everything need to be cored?

If weight control is not an issue are there some woods that don't really need to be cored? I am not using a full-length core. I am coring each part: forearm, handle, and butt. I am sure a consistent core density will affect the hit so that would also be a factor. The cue I am working on right...

    Offset points or butterfly fix

I think you are saying to not use the band saw and jig but to cut it on the lathe (I do not have a mill). I thought about it but the offset is too far off. I am using a mid America cue lathe.

    Offset points or butterfly fix

Thanks, Just what I was looking for. This became a hard lesson I hope will deter me from repeating. First I should have tapered of the original center that was dead on and added the butt plate after tapering. Instead my re-center after the butt plate was off slightly. Then when I tried to adjust...

    Offset points or butterfly fix

Thought about it and if it was just the butt I might. I was experimenting with a one piece handle/butt. I could still cut off the butt and modify the design. I’m going to sit on it for a while before I decide which direction to go. Guess I just need to be even more careful with these adjustments.

    Offset points or butterfly fix

Not sure how I got these so far off. Is there a calculation to move the center or is it just by eye and feel? They were dead even prior to tapering. After my first pass I saw they were getting off, so I adjusted the center on the butt end. Maybe I went the wrong way. I'm not sure. I've done...

    DIY wood kiln

Seems to be working so far. The main pieces I was concerned with have lost an ounce in just a few days. I just ordered a temperature/humidity controller to better regulate the conditions inside. I was thinking about a small 6”x6” dehumidifier but I will try this first and see if it is really...
