Trimming down turning block for jump cue butt

I'm sure your cuemaker has the ability to trim down blanks to the size that is best for him to continue. He also probably has a better eye for which sides to trim from experience. The trimmed out pieces can be used for points or inlays or returned to you, if that is what you want.

    Carbon fiber blanks

J2, I had a chance to put one of the CF blanks in my lathe today. My lathe jaws aren't perfect, so I turned the the blank 2 or 3 times and re-tightened the jaws. I measured a total indicator runout (TIR) at .002" - .0025". I measured the tips on all three and they were a consistent 12.47mm...

    Elk antler ferrule sealing

Antlers, whether they be Elk, Deer, Moose, etc, can be used for ferrules, but generally only the tips of the antlers. The base and most of the branching material is too porous and not strong enough. And even not all tips are dense enough, you have to inspect them individually. That said, once...

Please help me selecting a carbon fiber shaft

Well, you start off saying you want to try out one of the new CF shafts, but then you quickly state that you want to buy a new butt as well, so .. . . If you change 2 things at the same time and you don't like the result, then you cannot know which of those two (or both) it is that you don't...

    Break Tip

I recently have been using and installing BulletProof break tips. They look somewhat like Piku's (clear), but I haven't found them to burn or melt from cloth friction like the Piku's do. They are very popular as they hold chalk well.

    Strange think in shaft

Earlier this year, I was given a shaft that tinked. I replaced the tip and it no longer made that noise. Just a week or two later, I got another with the same symptom. I changed the tip and no change. So I ended up having to replace the ferrule and the tip and the customer is now happy. Yes...

    To sand or not to........?

Another reason for sanding the tip is to get it absolutely flat. Many tips are not flat on the glue side out of the box. My 2 cents Gary

Taig CNC Mill & Dayjob shop show and tell

FWIW, I for one, am using Fusion360. It is an AutoDesk product. You're right in that it is attractive to the "If it's free, then it's for me" crowd, but it's gaining professional acceptance, as well. I use it for CAD design of inlays, CAM for tool paths, and then creating the post processor...

    Stress Marks on Scorpion Shaft?

It turns out you are exactly correct! Those brown lines were from dragging the cue across the back of a pocket during a shot. Soap and water clean up, essentially. Thanks! Gary

    Stress Marks on Scorpion Shaft?

Hey Guys, A friend/customer asked me about these marks on his Scorpion shaft - see below. They showed up mysteriously last week. He thinks he can feel the finish lifted slightly - I couldn't feel anything. I'm not familiar with Scorpions so thought I would ask here. Has anyone seen this before...
