To the OP, I'm surprised no one has cautioned you on using metal rings next to wood. Metal shrinks and expands with temperature moreso than wood, often causing the rings to "stand out" or break the finish coat. But if you know, you know. Gary

Laser etching is commonly used for logos and such. Then, it only penetrates .05mm or so and is quite visible. You may choose to try something else.
