Installing quick release pin with alignment barrel

I've tried a few different items and settled on a pair of adjustable channel locks. Glued some thick pcs of leather on to the jaws. I can get good pressure and seems to grip better than anything else I've tried and doesn't chink up the pin threads. Use on my threaded ferrules and threaded...

Shaft Hole Depth Creates Void Question.

Depth of pin hole in shaft and looseness of pin in thread hole are 2 totally different issues.

    Snake wood....

Thanks for the info. I had come across this web in the past but I'm not a huge fan of impregnated woods for cues so I never have used them. I did have a look at what woods they will not except for processing and ironwood is listed on their no go list. A quick look and snakewood and ironwood are...

    Snake wood....

It must be cored for weight and stability. It is more fickle to use as a forearm or handle than working with a tusk. My general plan of attack has always been.... Turn round...let sit for 3-5 yrs and inspect. Poke coring hole thru smaller (DO NOT allow the drill to heat up) than your final...

"Best" way to check for taper roll?

Taper roll is a made up term that some use to a sell a cue that is flawed in some fashion or another. The cue is either straight and correctly constructed or it is probably flawed. Hence the term "taper roll" was invented by some crafty sales person to try and soften the blow. If the butt...

Is Cypress a good choice for butt components??

Probably a good reason for that. Supposed good furniture wood. Stick with your rosewoods, ebony, PH, hard maples and numerous other good hardwoods for cues and you can't go wrong. If you feel like experimenting with soft/lighter woods (even if cored with a better hardwood) try one and see how...

    CNC machined Veneer mitering jig

The "Unimaginative"! Haha....I like that Bob. This industry is full of them. Maybe you should use it like this when you type it...... Unimaginative™ or someone might use it and claim they created it. Happy Thanksgiving and keep on creating ;)

    Hole in my ferrule.

I'd be more concerned with the end of the ferrule looking like a pack rat chewed on it.. The hole shouldn't be a problem unless a small piece of glue were to come off and rattle around after the tip were glued on.

    regrind question

Yep, I send them out. The problem I have found is most places don't want to do one off stuff without charging you an arm and leg. My local place wants multiple pieces to give me a decent price which still isn't cheap but if I have enough pieces is usually cheaper than buying new. So you have...

    Black vs Clear epoxy

My first question is why? 1. If you have faced and cut everything to perfection there shouldn't be a need. 2. If you are afraid there are going to be glue lines black pigment may help but if you didn't do number 1 it'll probably still show up as a fatter glue line.
