It's all about the consistent color. Not a big fan myself of how wood veneers look when the cue is rotated.

Tips are an expendable item. Cut them both off or have them both cut off and install 2 tips of what you like. Looks like a couple triangles will fit the bill for you. If you're interested I have 15mm triangles available. If you don't know the story behind 15s just use some 14s.
