    Lord help me

Call me old fashion but I still do a lot of tapering by offsetting the tailstock even though I know it's not the best way to do it. But I have a work around for the inherent problems it will cause. You just figure some of these things out as you move along the journey. When off setting the...

    Clear Ferrule Finally Installed

White, black, orange, red, pink, yellow the truth of the matter is every so often someone will came along and tout a new this or that to be the best or "better" than what is has already been a staple in past. Around 30 years ago most everyone in my orbit laughed at me when I started putting...

    First Problem With Pirate Shipping

Love em or hate em... For 25 years I've shipped cues world wide using USPS with not a single problem other than at times taking a little longer than it said it should. Never 1 surcharge...just pay and we deliver. UPS FedEx DHL I've had accounts with all 3 and have closed all 3 accounts because...

    Offset points or butterfly fix

It can be done by using a fixture that sits on top of the lathe bed and not adjusting the tail. It just really depends on how often you may use something like that compared to the cost of having it built or your time and expense doing it yourself. It's all a learning curve and adjustments along...

    Offset points or butterfly fix

Adding a sacrificial piece to the end of the butt and cutting the flies on a lathe or mill would produce a much more precise and cleaner end result. Lessons are just steps in the process that generally need to be taken to get a higher quality end result. I can't tell you how many times I've...

    Offset points or butterfly fix

If points/flies are off you can put the butt piece/short splice between centers and put a witness mark around the the 2 ends of the flies (or the high/low fly if there are more than 2) Same with points if you are trying to adjust them. Then you can visually see how much adjustment needs to be...

    Offset points or butterfly fix

Either moved the center the wrong direction or not far enough would be my guess. Cut it off and try again.

    standard diameters???

Perfectly? Like carbide mandrel perfect? Or close enough 95% of players/buyers really won't give a shit perfect?

Need to have some shafts made

Needless to say if you hate shipping your cue(s) you're going to have to find someone within driving distance. At $450 a shaft by a top notch shop like that is a steal. Throw another 150 ea on that if it were coming my way.

    standard diameters???

Pretty much trying to meet in the middle, I presume, and get something close. How many of those aftermarket shafts "match up" to the cue butts perfectly?

    standard diameters???

Cue building....the only standards involved is what the builder decides is his/her standard! Edit: after thinking about this for a short, there are "commonly" used sizes though out the building industry. But not really a "standard" per say.

Nice thought but there is no private with FB accounts. It only appears to the account owner that you are private.

    Full splice lost art

I really should stay away from these conglomerations of half truths and people thinking they are in the know. On the other hand, some very intelligent comments made that some feel should be poo pooed. Full splice Half splice No splice Cored These are all 4 totally different construction...

    Opinions?

He doesn't mention using epoxy for the glue up. If he did, I missed it because I couldn't sit thru the whole 39 mins. To each their own, however.... A few things stick out to me. The core/hole difference has to more than what he is saying as easily as he slides that core in and out before...

    Wood suggestions for a rookie

Even with a piece turned round and tapered with a creative mind and a bandsaw these can be cut into 4 pieces and used for points. I've done this with a "finished size" cue if the A joint configuration doesn't mess it up. But if the 11-12" piece hasn't been installed yet it should be no problem.

    Wood suggestions for a rookie

I'll give you the same advice as I was given almost 30 years ago. "RIVER of WOOD" Those who know of him, know where this advice came from. Probably one of the most important pieces of info I was given to start out. Shaft wood...you can never have enough. If you have the right source, it's...

    Drill size for Radial tap..

I'm not going to point at anyone in particular but I've read this post and don't see any criticism or individuals that think they know it all. OP asked a question and was given the answer by 2 others and then got upset because the answer wasn't exactly what he may have expected. Then said oh...

    Cheap Durometer Hardness Tester

You'll get what you pay for in this department. It is a bit of a science to find the correct set up to get consistent readings over and over. Without the correct set up you will get one reading and try later and can get a different reading.

    Ivory Cue Ball

you can cut that ball in half and probably still see those lines. They have zero to do with how it's machined and finished.
