    Congrats. T REX 1 P Winner-Bayou Classic

Tony remains the Conundrum. His Fargo is below 800 and he menaces the top players such that he can and does win his fair share. How does this happen? Well, that's why One Pocket is such an interesting game in that good moving stops good shooting..........sometimes. I think I saw where the match...

    GOAT Hunt

SJM, I stand very much corrected. So there you go, one can forget past greats. But I don't think head to head Mike could beat Efren in the long run.

    GOAT Hunt

Talking about who "The GOAT" is, is a common problem in all walks of life and endeavors. In our world, stats help to some extent but don't really tell the whole story. There's Greenleaf, Mosconi, Strickland, Reyes, SVB and all the rest. For me, not using a jump cue, Reyes reigns supreme. Throw...

    DerbyCity going to Nashville...???

The following needs to happen: - increase entry fee's = higher prize fund - improve match scheduling = 500 players per event - open up food court = happier players/customers and you'll still sell all the food available - have a mini event every nite except the last one - have a trick shot event...

2025 DERBY CITY ALL 3 FINALS ON LAST SUNDAY THOUGHTS....

I'm concerned that DCC Executive Staff will succumb to those outside forces that want to speed everything up especially in the One Pocket Event. Just adding the extra day in and of itself could have kept the event on track with the higher number of entrants. This event needs that higher number...

    Traveling with your cue

I was heading to a tournament post 911 and had to check in my cue and case. As I sat in my seat watching the luggage getting placed in the airplane hold, I watched the loader throw my case into the hold. So when I got home, my wife found me a 30" luggage case which will hold my cues diagonally...

2025 DERBY CITY ALL 3 FINALS ON LAST SUNDAY THOUGHTS....

The capping of the One Pocket Event to 400 players will make it very difficult for a mid range player to get through 7-8 rounds. The demise of the Sands Regency, in part was because the Pro's wanted a smaller field to 128 players. Bad move as the Sands event with 20K added went the way of the Do...

SJM Sizes Up 2024 in Pro Pool

SJM, how did SVB manage to win $238K (non-gambling) and not be mentioned in your opening commentary?

New Cue Syndrome -- Real or Imagined

Garages all over America are chock full of golf clubs. Maybe I'll find that new driver and 3 iron that'll make me a player extraordinaire.

Harold Worst 7 Rail Draw Shot - Fact or Fiction? Can anyone replicate this shot today?

I saw Eddie Kelly draw the cueball such that with a standard draw stroke he hit the same rail twice. In his shot he doubled the long rail for position. I have not seen that shot tried in over 60 years.

Harold Worst 7 Rail Draw Shot - Fact or Fiction? Can anyone replicate this shot today?

Some things that might help with the "Worst" shot are: Back then it was common for Billiard Table Cloth to be dry cleaned when changing it out. It would be cleaned, turned upside down and reapplied to a pool table. It was super thin and very fast. With his stroke, the draw shot might be...

Harold Worst 7 Rail Draw Shot - Fact or Fiction? Can anyone replicate this shot today?

OK, there are ways to get seven rails on a draw shot. One way is to use a power draw ala Sayginer the 3C player. He draws the ball and it hits the same long rail 4-5 times before it takes off to the other cushions. There are several old videos of Hoppe doing this and remember Worst was a...

    Sad news…..

Parking, parking and more parking. The requirements most cities impose on pool rooms are severe but not without merit. If you think about it, one person one car per pool player is the norm. The best parking I ever saw was Jay Helferts parking at his room in Hollywood Park. He had parking for...

    Sad news…..

It's difficult to be a renter in the Pool Room business. I was lucky in that my building location came up for sale and we bought it. Delbert Wong owner of Family Billiards is a great owner. He almost lost Family Billiards during Covid and persevered in re-opening. It now looks like a rent...

Southwest cues how much and how long through the years?

The desire to own a Southwest isn't just about the mystique of the cue, it"s about their attention to detail, record keeping, consistency and provenance. Laurie does an incredible job at protecting the brand and YOUR ownership documentation as well. I wonder how long the KO brothers have to wait...

    Chohan-Bergman Match

By 1974-5 RA was through as a top player. He drank and ate himself into a physical wreck. Sure, he had flashbacks but mostly it was easier to work other angles at getting the money. He played One Pocket like American Snooker on a tight 5X10 table. Lots of innings with few runouts. Ronnie was...

    Mosconi Cup 2024, Nov. 30-Dec. 3, Orlando

Watching the Mosconi Cup reminds me of Soccer. Your best against our best. And, sprinkle in a few super stars for good measure. The Americans continue to field the same team and guess what.............same results. I certainly don't have the answer but play has to improve for the Mosconi Cup to...

Which Way Do You Play This Shot?

With a easily pocketable ball, rolling forward seems the correct way for position. I think rolling into position has a more consistent outcome.

    The good olde days

In Liability Snooker, it's a ring game except you only pay or collect from the person you follow or the person who follows you. If the person you followed sold out to you, any points you made were paid by him and if he hooked you and you fouled you paid him.

    The good olde days

Jay, I remember seeing that film spot with Johnny Mountain running out of Hollywood Billiards with only his underwear on. It was hilarious.
