    One Pocket Timing

Ray Hanson was most considerate of the players in terms of scheduling matches. Our matches started at !PM. They could have started much earlier. Pre-match practice was not policed. The players took liberal time warming up on their scheduled tables. This added some to the lengthy match times...

    One Pocket Timing

A couple of points: - the field was increased to about 43 players. the actual number participating was about 36-7 players. several of the early signups had to cancel out for various reasons. if the field had been left at 32 players we might have had only 27 or so players. extra players not a...

    One Pocket Timing

Those contributors who have ideas about how to change the game of One Pocket should post their remedies. Banning players for their methodical play is disrespectful of their skill set. None of the posters in this thread has the slightest chance of beating Nicky Varner. But they don't like his...

    Rip Archie Karas

Only a few have the gamble and intellect to win then lose that kind of money. I can't criticize Archie for his choices in his life.

Boxed Set of Brunswick Balke Collender Ivory Balls

As a side note. Sets of new ivories came oversized at 2 1/2" and it was common practice to turn them down to their playing size of 2 3/8" after some use. Then of course down to the smaller sizes for pool and snooker. If those ivories are original at 2 1/2", you have something special.

Mike Dechaine giving pool one more shot

Earl got away for years with his bad behavior because he was winning. Mike has a special talent and he has special problems too. Will both resurface? Or, will only one?

    US Open-The Other Way Around

With the nine ball being placed on the spot, it's much harder to put racks together because of the SLICE Break. You'll notice that you can't get the cue ball out of the way from all the traffic flying around. You can make the one ball in the side but controlling the cue ball is a mystery at best.

    US Open-The Other Way Around

Pocket sizing and shelf depth are the major factors in position play. Pool pocket sizing should not be so snug as to interfere with position play. You have to be able to CHEAT the pocket to run balls.

    Fedor vs SVB score

SVB picked up his pace at around 112/111. At the end he looked like the 24 year old and Fedor looked tired and wasted. I believe SVB is in the best pool playing shape of his career. This will be a great year performing for him IMO.

    Fedor vs SVB score

Some time back at DCC, I watched a match between Alex and Shane for $40K race to 100 over three days. It was 35/70 then finish at 100. On day one Alex was breaking with him at 34/26. He broke dry and Shane ran the first day set out for 35/34 lead. He came day two with a 9 pack. OUCHEY. Final...

    Fedor vs SVB score

I am actually surprised that this shot is the only potential controversy for the entire match? Those close cue ball hits come up all the time in One Pocket but rarely in rotation games. The fact that the cue ball traveled say an extra 1-2 inches does not mean a double hit ocurred. Too me, Shane...

Charlie Harris' Pool/They Call Me Mr. Tibbs

Book Collector: 100% correct for that Mathematical Donald Duck Cartoon. Rommie was a great guy. Ran the room strict and didn't tolerate any bullshit. He sold it around 1971 or so and it slowly went downhill and into demise. That's about the time I started to go elsewhere. It was really a 3C room...

Charlie Harris' Pool/They Call Me Mr. Tibbs

That room is the BRUNSWICK BILLIARD ACADEMY AKA 4th and Main La Ca. Rommie Yanez was the owner. My home room 1965-1970. Only one of us regulars were allowed to stay on as an extra. To add a bit of additional trivia Michael Jackson shot his Thriller video in the room and in the alley behind it...

Is Karl Boyes à complete moron?

Re terminology: When I was very young where the cue ball ended up was called SHAPE. Now it's called POSITION. The previous generation of players before me called it LOCATION. I recently have heard the term ALIGNMENT. So progress is alive and well. Just POT the ball, get your ALIGNMENT and take...

weight in one pocket, what to do?

One Pocket is so unuque such that all kinds of handicaps can be worked out. Other than the traditional spot, how about factoring in no count like you spot him 8/6 plus at least two no count or you have to bank at least two balls into your side to win or many other factors also money lines like...

CB on lands on top rail

Cornerman, your point is well taken. It seems a bit of a mystery anyway why the table size measurement isn't nose to nose??

CB on lands on top rail

This is a very interesting question............So, if you are measuring a tables playing surface, it includes the rail in its dimensions. In other words if a table is a 41/2 X 9 the measurment starts where the rail cloth is hammered into the featherstriping. How it's not part of the playing...
