    Older Cue Butts

It is not just moisture content that changes. The wood hardens with age.

    Older Cue Butts

Go get a fresh kiln dried oak board and drive a nail through it. Try that with one that has been a floor board for 100 years. Then let me know if you still feel there is very little change. Check the stiffness on an old titleist house cue compared to a modern house cue.

    Older Cue Butts

I think it does. Have you tried to drive a nail through 100 year old Oak or Maple? Some wood gets harder with age. So it will have less flex in in it.

What do you think would happen if there were no handicaps, in any leagues or tournaments, and all tournaments were Open to all skill levels?

It would probably almost kill pool at this point to drop all handicaps. The only tournaments I have seen that kept a good size crowd week after week for years without handicaps were single game match 8 Ball tournaments. It made people feel good to beat the top players which happened pretty...

Getting steady rest / 3 jaw bearing chuck aligned and centered

It may not make a difference, but a single bearing has a little pivot to it on the inner race. The fact the rear bearing is up against the front bearing may be enough to stop the pivot. But having pressure on the outside of both bearings would be best. Brass posts shaped like an L would do it...

I gotta ask about Unique machines **NOT trying to purchase any additional machines**

When someone asks me about CNC and since I do not sell CNC machines, I send them to Unique. Here is the main reason. Customer support. I have talked to many cuemakers who assemble the cues with my lathes and do inlays and tapering with Unique CNC machines. They have all seemed to be able to...

Getting steady rest / 3 jaw bearing chuck aligned and centered

The only problem I see with this set up is you are only holding one bearing with the steady rest. So unless you find a way like a metal shim or something to make it hold both bearings it may never give you the very best accuracy possible.

    Identify cue

His cues were very reasonably priced for sure. It is hard to get even a plain Jane Spain for under $1000 now.

    Identify cue

I never asked him myself even though I knew him. But he was not doing anything really new. The pin in the butt was the newer way of doing things when he started in the 60's. Burton did not care too much about what was popular, he did things the way he liked them. There are several benefits to...

    Identify cue

I own three Burton Spain cues and I am 99.9 percent sure that one is a Burton Spain. If not someone went to a lot of trouble to make it exactly like one.

    A Rare Sight

Ask any of the cuemakers who put cues in the Smithsonian "Exhibit" how that went. The cues were never put on display and never seen again. Is what happened to most.

    Window help

Most any good auto clear coat buffing compound/material (not wax) will bring it crystal clear after sanding to 3000 grit. Same goes for the outside with no clear coat needed.

    Atlas metal lathe woes

I built cues on one for a few years and the steady rest method is actually more accurate than going through the headstock if your steady rest bearing bushings are concentric.
