    A-joint problems

It is almost impossible to get a perfect, wobble free fit at the "A" joint. You can do things as precise as you can and still get a bit of a wobble. The rings might not always be perfectly flat and that can cause a wobble. Using slow cure epoxy at that joint allows you time to place the butt and...

    BK3 white diamond tip

Try 30 min epoxy if all the super type glues fail. It will help fill in a bit of the hollow end. Its slow to set but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. I machine a small shoulder on the White Diamond tip and a corresponding hole in the ferrule to help counteract the lateral forces of a...

    A-joint problems

I wonder if Chris Hightower's book addresses the making of "A" joints in any detail? Actually Im be a bit of a smart a$$ because of course it does. Just like pool you read, study and practice to increase your skill and knowledge. No matter how many years you are making cues you can always learn...

    A big thank you!

Ya made something to use and be proud of. Your great grand kids will most likely be playing with that cue long after you are gone. They will just as proudly tell their friends "my great grand dad made this cue"

    Cuemaking Supplies: Collars, buttcaps etc.

Yep ... those rules are there for a reason folks. Passing along that kind of information requires a special ritual.

    More beginner questions...

Start with a longer house cue? I dont understand how cutting and joining a house cue reduces the overall length more than about 1/4 inch. Most house cue conversions will require a new shaft or at least re-tapering the original shaft.

    Shaft cutting problems

Vibration will make the shaft smaller ... the center is the most vibration prone area. Shaft cutting requires a finely tuned machine and without being there and watching the thing run it would be hard to recommend a fix.

You can not buy a new proper "B" lathe ... they are not being made anymore. Best bet is a used Hightower lathe ... unless you change your mind.

    Revo revolution ...

The Revo shaft ... how good is it? Is it really worth 2 or 3 times as much as a maple shaft? Do players really play better pool using it? Is it just another fad who's time has finally come? I see all the other makers are scrambling to get a competing product. Will there be Chinese knock offs...

    3/8"-8 Tap

Tom, is there a reason you dont have Wes Hunter work on the cue? You must have thought the the quality of his work was worth the money when you purchased the cue. Cue makers will tell you their custom joint pin will hit better than standard pins but it is all smoke and mirrors. Truth is they...

    tools needed for making cues

I know exactly what you mean ... their are periods I go through that I just dont feel the need. Sounds like you have enough equipment to make about any cue you desire. Never .... ever ... sell your wood.

    tools needed for making cues

A Taig CNC mill is not one of the pieces of cue making equipment you would use much except to do inlays in cues that are 90% made. Even then you would need to do a lot of "other" work to accomplish that. (like designing the inlays, developing the G-code. making fixtures to hold the cue ... ect_)

    Joey ... brilliant! Thanks

Question about fishing line for wrap

I prefer the common Elmers white glue rather than the stick glue. It applies to the cue thick but you can use a bit of water to get it to penetrate into the linen and that will hold the wrap nice and tight for a very long time.

    linen wrap question ...?

A customer brings you a cue that has a leather wrap and he wants it replaced with a linen wrap. The wrap groove is .040" ... (to deep for the linen wrap to lay flush with the cue surface). Can you share your best method of building the wrap groove back up to to proper depth?

    CNC question ...?

Kim, Yes ... very inexpensive and easy to set up. I set it for 16 steps and it is working out great but I might change that to 8 just to see if there is any difference. Quiet and smooth. Max speed is set to 25 and cutting speed is usually programed to around F7. Fast travel is F20 and is plenty...
