Is the shaft insert that predator used in their cues a standard thread or something special? I need to make a shaft for one and the pin in the butt looks strange to me. Willee

This is an old topic but the information is still useful to all wanting to know more about the different grades of maple shaft wood. They all start from boards, then squares, then dowels. The advantage of a dowel is that you can better judge the grade of the wood. Hidden defects do pop up...

McD cues have a very thick finish that could be sanded down a few thousands and polished out to match a small mis-matched shaft. However, that would make your original McD shaft to big. Best way is to send the smaller shaft and the butt to a cue maker that can build up the finish on the shaft...

I think you are letting the real hacks and flakes distract you from what you know is an obvious answer to your question. Of course it is completely OK for someone else to finish a cue you have made. The fact you did not let a sub standard job go to a customer speaks a lot about your commitment...

Like Joey said ... use a dial indicator and adjust the steps per inch in your program so it moves 1 inch exactly. Then you will know for sure your machine is set up and moves accurately. Willee

Finishing ... the other half of making a cue. I think you are referring to Poly Urethane and if so General finishes makes a good one. Best to spray it on but there you need more equipment and the space for it. Brushing it on is tricky at best and rubbing it on with a rag gives thin coats. If...
