    Finishing a shaft

Couple questions for all you makers out there. When you do your final turning on your shafts, do you immediately put the sealer on, or do you wait a specified amount of time before doing so? Do you sand first to finish size then apply sealer, or do you seal first, then sand, then seal again...

    Handle Tenons

Thanks for all the info I'm thinking about boring a 3/4" and epoxy in a dowel of 3/4" oak. Good, bad, indifferent? Figured strength of the oak would be good, just don't know how well it will take a 5/8" tenon threader to screw into the forearm. Can't wait to find out though! lol :D Nathan

    Handle Tenons

I purchased some handles that are 1.375" Dia. X 20" Long. I'm going to be threading a 5/8" handle tenon into the forearm, and cutting down the rear handle to the 3/4" tenon for the butt sleeve. My question is: Can I cut down the handle material to the 5/8" & 3/4" tenons all at once, or do I...

    Butt Sleeve boring issues

lol, yeah my bloodwood piece smoked a bit, so i just did that one slower to let it cool from time to time. the stepping really helped! and yes when putting in the bigger bits it would hit the grab all of the sudden, backed off and grabbed again. Also, in stead of just going all the way...

    Butt Sleeve boring issues

Ok, so I have some butt sleeve material that is needing to be bored out to 3/4". Watching Hightowers vids and reading his book, I used a 1/2" bit then I was going to bore the hole to 3/4". When trying to drill the butt sleeve, the motor bogs slightly and the sleeve starts to back out of the...

How do I use my new compression dies?

All I did was put the aligning rod in the tailstock, turned the tenon to .280, chamfered the end with a file, smeared cue wax on the tenon, put the die up to it and did 2 turns by hand, backed off and cleaned, run it back up till snug and turned 2 more times, backed off and clean.and kept...
