Decided to cut and tap my own capped ferrules from solid rod. Drilled and bored out to proper size, but when I try to tap them, the tap gets 1/2 way in and the ferrule itself starts spinning inside the headstock instead of cutting threads. No matter how tight I make the chuck, it still spins...

I picked up a Ryobi Pinless meter from home depot for about $50. I like it, it measures up to 0.5" below surface and has a range of 0% - 35% for hardwoods.

I would have to also recommend the cuesmith deluxe. Dropped about $6000 initial start up, and have made 5 full cues, 7 shafts, numerous cleanings, tip and ferrule jobs so far without a single problem with the machine. I absolutely love it! Mr. Hightower is by far one of THE best guys around!

My 1st Cue I started doing this in May of 2011, had my 1st one done in October. 1st time trying EVERYTHING I was so nervous thinking I was going to screw it up somehow. Cored holly forearm, holly butt sleeve, 4 snakewood points, thick black and white abs trim rings, turquoise stitch rings...

I just found for my personal use that the epoxy worked best for me. By no means am I knocking the other ways of doing it, I just like the epoxy way of doing it lol

I tried 3 different ways of finish. The cue comp sealer and gloss using the HVLP, cue comp epoxy finish, and the cue comp odorless CA finish. My personal preference, I liked the epoxy finish best then buff it up with the system V :thumbup:

Nice links! :thumbup: I found a 72RPM motor with 1/2" shank @ surpluscenter with cap, resistor and the footplate for $33. Think I'll use the step pulleys I got and slow it down more if I need to. Thank you EVERYONE with your input on this, it was a huge help!! :D Nathan

well, lol, it spun. But after a little bit i noticed that the motor was getting pretty hot so I shut it off and haven't turned it on since. Then I posted my question. I guess I'm gonna try to find a DC motor, and maybe try to sell the AC one I tried. Oh well, live and learn :o

I just bought and mounted a 1021W Marathon Motor 115v 60 HZ 1725 RPM 1/4 HP, 1/2" shaft to power my spray booth station. I hooked it up to a variable speed router control box. Is it possible to spin the motor too slow and burn it out? Thanks, Nathan
